Never hunted cranes, but like seeing/hearing them pass thru each fall and Spring as it notes the season change. Generally I have seen them headed South Sept thru November, but yesterday while planting a few fruit trees, had a bunch fly over headed slightly SE, thought this was odd for this time of year?
Just curious if some of you migratory hunters see this as normal this late in the year, or is this more common and I just missed it over the years?

Most likely just heading from feed to roost or a place to rest.
They fly south in general but once they get here they can be seen flying in just about any direction going from where they roost to where they feed or vise-versa.

Not all go to the coast, some that do come back north. Like BB said when they are in an area direction is more based on where they want to be. Have killed several in the peanut fields around Rule TX in the past while hunting geese in January

I may have missed them over the years mid winter IDK. No crop type AG use for many miles here, but dont know if that's what they are attracted to .
