Got back last night from a great hunt with my friend, we each got our cows. Yes the picture of mine is laying in the road. When I shot her she slid down the hill and landed in the road. It was a tough pack out 2.5' up to the back of the truck. My friend used a Browning A Bolt in .338 and I used a Tikka in .300 WSM. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2018/12/full-63244-172397-img_0436.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2018/12/full-63244-172398-img_4232.jpg)

Congrats! Did you happen to see a difference between the 2 rifles? As far as reaction, how far they went after the shot? Elk steak for dinner!!!

speaking of whether these were on public or private lands, draw or OTC, I asked a longtime outfitter what would be my best DIY opportunity, if I don't have any tags, to simply put meat in the freezer. He told me do a little research and purchase LEFTOVER cow tags in one of the limited draw areas. There are many limited entry areas that have leftover tags. He suggested the 2nd rifle hunt in Colorado. but i'm curious also on these 2 cow elk, whether OTC or limited entry etc?

I thought cow tags could only be purchased/drawn by residents and the only way NR could get a cow tag was to purchase authorization from LO.
