What are your favorite weather conditions you look for on a hunt? Bluebird, high wind, rain.... Next week looks like promising cold front with some mixed cloudy and bluebird days with some precipitation mixed in. Whats your favorite conditions?

Overcast, cold (30s or below) with a 10 mph wind. This. I don’t mind a sprinkle either. Birds tend to suck right in.

I like temps low enough to freeze small water since I hunt big water. Also like partly cloudy with winds 15+ so ducks will stay off the main lake.

I like cold drizzly and slight to mild wind when there’s birds. Sucky and miserable when they’re not there.

Preferably not so cold that’s it uncomfortable but don’t like it when it’s hot then I start sweating!
Honestly, when it comes to killing ducks I have had great hunts in all kinds of weather.

I live in SOUTH TEXAS for a reason. We have two seasons...summer and NOT summer. Anything else is an annoyance that will pass soon.

Weird, I’ve noticed they work better on sunny days. They seem to pick you or anything out they don’t like on cloudy days. In either case, WIND is most important. 10-15 MPH is perfect so the dekes swim.

I like snow with 15 mph wind +1. My favorite hunt snowed real heavy to turn everything white and then it let up a bit and we hammered the mallards. Everything was super quiet and all of a sudden through the snow was a beautiful bald eagle soaring about 15 feet right over my head. Towards the end of the hunt a huge buck popped out of the woods a few hundred yards away and walked down the bank towards us. Big Red River Buck that ended up walking right between my cousin and I who were only about 30 feet a part. Everything was white except the water.... was beautiful!

Weird, I’ve noticed they work better on sunny days. They seem to pick you or anything out they don’t like on cloudy days. In either case, WIND is most important. 10-15 MPH is perfect so the dekes swim. I know a lot of people say this (especially on hunting shows) but that’s not my experience at all. I do much better on overcast and it’s easier to hide and I have an easier time picking birds out because the sun isn’t as bright. If you’re facing the sun (like I am a lot because I hunt the same lake most of the time) it lights you up like a Christmas tree and easier to be seen. Sun being in your face makes it harder to shoot, too. Then, it blows out the shape of the bird when it’s flying, too. All that being said, I still have better luck with birds finishing when the weather is poor. Not a monsoon necessarily, or obscenely cold temps, but cold, good wind and overcast. That’s my experience.

^^^ I will never hunt with the sun in my face. You lose the advantage of shadows and can't see worth a darn. If that is how you hunt in the sun, no wonder you can't get them to finish. If the wind is WNW I'll setup a cross shoot.
I don't pay attention to what hunting shows say. They are all trying to sell you something.

Like I said, I usually hunt the same lake. They want to be on a specific part of it, and it requires you to setup facing the sun. It’s the best spot on the lake and no real way to set it up to cross shoot. Plus, it’s public, and there are usually other groups out there. It’s a small lake.

Been many years since we have seen this in north Texas though. When it happens, any place over 2 acres it is on. Every duck around will pour into open water.

I like COLD, 10 mph wind out of the north and BLUE skies. Preferable with Oklahoma frozen for 2-3 days prior.

If the wind is WNW I'll setup a cross shoot.. I go where there birds want to be, if that means dealing with sun in face so be it. Cross shoot is a solution, but also a stick in the mud with weeds on it, just keep that between your face and the sun. But when you guys are as good as me, you got your limit before the sun even becomes a factor.

I like sunny, cold and windy. X2 x3 I just shot a limit of green with a gaddy drake kicker Saturday in these conditions. It was cold enough but not real cold though...wind was out of the south.
