Found this rub and wallow at our place in East TX (Cass County). I've seen lots of pig rubs out there but never one to this extent.

Near Fairfield we have lots of them like that.....killed several trees by ringing them....

Near Fairfield we have lots of them like that.....killed several trees by ringing them.... Same for me. Hogs will rub on the Pine Trees until they girdle it all the way around...then of course the tree dies. Pines have a deep, rough bark...so they seem to prefer them, but will also use any of the hardwoods here with a rough bark (Ash, Shagbark Hickory, Osage, etc..). Telephone poles and wooden fence posts that have been treated with Creosote get special attention too.

I have seen rubs, but not like that. Interesting how they will work on one tree and not touch others around

Yep most of the electric poles on our place have been rubbed. They replaced a few a couple years ago because of it.
