Looking for a good protein feeder any recommendations?

We use a 55 Gallon Drum on legs with a 4 inch PVC mounted to the bottom. Hole in drum needs to be around 2.5 to 3 inches to allow for drop of protein feed. The 4 inch PVC is around 40 inches from ground (you will have to experiment to determine exact length) and we put a "T" on the bottom and connect it via screws (the PVC glue won't hold with the weight of the feed inside for very long.) Seal everything with RTV Sealant and your good to go. Surf internet and you can find some good pictures of these online.

55 gallon protein feeder is a waste of time unless you can fill it every three or 4 days

Now that is funny.

After a two seasons on my place I have come to the conclusion my deer really like what I feed them, but when it gets wet I can’t get to my feeders. That’s a problem. I am thinking I need to buy a couple lamco timered feeders for protein and keep it open from January through sept, then start timing it so it is open only during the day from sept to Jan. I also switched the feed from protein to a mix of protein, soy, corn and black eye peas to act as more an attractant. At one of my stands the deer go through 500 lbs a week of this stuff! If I get them switched to daytime only feeding then it will keep deer around that much longer perhaps, but worse case scenario is it keeps feed around longer.

I currently have two 1000# boss buck protein feeders and the deer hammer it, so I can’t imagine switching to another style would be difficult. Just gonna be cost, but maybe will save that in feed costs over the course of the first season deployed too....

This timered feeder idea came from STX and I thought was a good one. The wet issue will go away when I get a utv and can get back there without dragging my big f250 back there to get stuck in the mud...been a very wet year this year and that isn’t likely going to be the case in the future. So the wet issue isn’t the big deal in my mind.

Has anyone used the All Seasons electric timed protein feeder? You can go up to 2000 lbs
Love my 600lb stand and fill!

I have a timed Lamco Protein Trough feeder. Couple comments...

- You MUST buy the rain shut off attachment, otherwise you end up with a deer repellent when you have a nasty blob of wet feed in the troughs.
- If you have an active coon population, the troughs will fatten 'em up if you don't thin the herd.
- With the above, I am a believer in it being much more economical on feed as my lease mates go through alot more protein than I do as none of mine ends up on the ground.

I like the unit, I wish Lamco would have made the troughs with a mesh bottom for water/moisture dissipation. I'm at least drilling some small holes in mine to do the same.



I strongly considered this one, but if you've ever watched video of a deer trying to eat out of one, it's a pretty odd angle, I believe it's too low to the ground.

Boss Buck with a coonhood on it..

I have the 600lb Boss Buck based on Dr. Deer's recommendation. Worked quite well. Primed it with corn (put in 100lbs first) and then topped off with protein. Had deer hitting it consistently within two weeks.
