After thinking the rut was over I decided to head to the lease early Friday morning, I had high hopes that the nasty weather would have the deer moving and man was I right. I brought along my soon to be 5 year old boy and we sat in the stand Friday from 130pm until dark and it rained on us the ENTIRE time. In the pouring rain I managed to kill 2 hogs and see 15 or so deer. It was a good sit but still no mature bucks. Friday night I asked my son where he wanted to sit the next morning. He responds with the one stand I DID NOT want him to pick. Out of 5 sits this season I had not seen a single deer at this stand. That’s what he wanted so that’s where we went. Still raining I turn the buddy heater on and lay my son in the floor board for him to pass out. Right when I could hardly see I spot a young buck at the feeder. I look to the left and here come 4 more. Finally some action at this spot. Before I could blink a doe comes running 100mph through a draw to my left. Wouldn’t you know it I see a big bodied WIDE buck 40 yards behind her on a dead sprint and I went straight for the gun. The only shot I had was through some trees with him in a slow trot but I had my mind up. I let the 143gr ELDx bullet fly from my creedmoor and connected with a perfect heart shot. He dropped in his tracks. He isn’t the biggest buck I have ever shot, but he is by far the widest. 21” inside. I sure wish he had some tall tines and wasn’t broke off but he’s still a stud in my book. More pics in comments. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2018/12/full-33330-171267-16802820_8ca1_4aea_86d9_977dae32af70.jpeg)

Nice!!!
The antlers remind me of the bucks I see on my property in NE Coleman County. I like the genetics in the area - seems to produce wide spreads!

I love the tall heavy bucks and that’s usually what I’m looking for. It was just to hard to pass up a deer this wide. Still not sure if I will shoulder mount him. Taxidermist could fix the brow easy enough though.
