Saturday December 1st was just like any other day at the lease until the evening hunt and is one I will never forget. I got settled in about an hour before the feeders were set to go off and waited for the deer to start trickling in on the corn I had poured out. Shortly after the feeder goes off I look at my North feeder and there are turkey everywhere!!! A few does and fawns along with the turkey make their way towards my blind eating the road corn. As they got in front of the blind I was finally able to count them all and there were 37 hens in this group The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful with a few does and fawns and one mature 5pt making an appearance, but that all changed right at last light. Just as I was about to call it quits I take a glance one last time at all my feeders with the binos. As I am looking at my bow feeder I see a black boar come out of the brush. I quickly get setup and dial the scope back so I could get a better view through the scope with the low light. I line the crosshairs up with the shoulder and send one it's way. I quickly look through the scope and I can see I dropped him but could barely see him with the low light and the fact he was in the hole under the feeder from all the hogs and rain this season. I gather up all my stuff and head to the atv. I get everything strapped down on the atv and head towards my bow feeder. As I pull into my setup I drive straight up to the feeder with a large boar laying under my feeder. Just as I am about to get off he starts trying to get up so I turn the atv off but quickly turn the ignition back on so the lights will be on him. I quickly jump off and pull my glock out of the holster. He makes his way onto his rear legs but can't get completely up due to the broken shoulder from the first shot. I quickly put a 9mm Federal HST just behind the shoulder and he runs about 5 feet before turning to face me. Trying not to hit him in the head I put one right into the top of the shoulder. He takes off the other direction (thankfully) but not very fast so I follow behind him as he stops just behind a cedar. I quickly run back to the atv to take off my backpack and turn the atv lights off. As I walk back to the last spot I had seen him he wasn't there. As I shined my light through the brush I could see him just past the brush about 5 feet but facing away from me just standing there with head down due to the broken shoulder. With only one shot opportunity I send another round from my glock for a Texas heart shot He takes off again so I quickly send a couple more rounds into him before he finally falls over. As he is laying there he starts thrashing his head around, growling and moaning. I walk up to the closest tree between me and him and put another one into his chest. He lets out a deep moan and continues to thrash and growl. I wait for him to expire but he just keeps growling and thrashing. I put another one into his chest and again a load moan then more thrashing and growling. I wait some more and he still won't die! I end up walking behind him and put another one into his chest before he finally tenses up and lets out his last breath. I honestly couldn't tell you how many rounds I had put in him before finally putting him away but knew I was close to being empty. I walk back to my atv and drive to where he laid as I knew I wouldn't be able to drag him that far. I finally get him loaded on the back rack of the atv and that is when I realized he had chipped his right cutter and had completely broken his left cutter . I had texted another lease member "black boar down" right after I dropped him under the feeder and I didn't see the text back until after I got back to camp but he had texted "he didn't eat you did he?" I checked my pistol and I had 2 rounds left out of 11 which means I had put one 150gr 30-06 and nine 9mm rounds in him!! He ended up at 182lbs and my 2nd largest boar to date.

I think FMJ would be more effective on a hog from a handgun especially penetration wise

I think FMJ would be more effective on a hog from a handgun especially penetration wise Yes, learned this a long time ago, black talons are no bueno on hogs. Now I carry Buffalo Bore ammo in 10mm, for the win!

I think FMJ would be more effective on a hog from a handgun especially penetration wise Penetration would be better for sure but I have never needed more penetration than what I get with HP's. Few years ago I shot a mid size Boar at about 40 yards with a 357sig Gold Dot. Bullet passed clean through both shoulders. I was shocked it did that !

dlrz, you only get credit for 180 lbs on the hog. The other two pounds is lead......LOL. Wild story and big boar down. I, too, hunt in Coke County and those suckers have become a major nuisance in the past 3 years.

Last year we didn't have any big pigs and not near as many!!
