I’ve been fishing out of a kayak for many years now, and the land I hunt on has many waterfowl and small game hunters that use kayaks since a big creek runs through the property. This has me intrigued, since hunting out of a kayak seems like a lot of fun. Any of y’all hunt out of kayaks? If so, what kind of set up y’all got? I’m thinking about taking mine out to hunt in, but my fishing kayak is a BRIGHT lime green

In Montana my brother and I would do what we called a "Cast and Blast". We would drop a vehicle at a take out spot on the river then drive to the other end and put in a small boat and paddle our day down river fishing for trout, hunting for deer, rabbits, ducks, geese, pheasants, coyotes and everything else. Much of it was public land, some private and we got permission beforehand on the good places. We would usually end up with a boatload of meat. One time I climbed up on the ridge on one side with my 270 and my brother and a friend paddled to the other side where they walked the brush and drove out deer, it worked great and I was able to get a small buck that way.

Interesting, you brought up a good point about the legality of it. I saw many dudes on the public land I hunt with kayaks going after ducks in the water and creek. I can’t find anything about it being illegal, it just doesn’t mention it. Time to ask a game warden haha. Thanks for the advice, y’all.

It is legal to use a kayak to hunt ducks on public land. I don't know about other game though.

Not sure what you're trying to quote, but you are 100% incorrect. You can hunt waterfowl from a kayak on public waters and it's 100% legal. You cannot hunt waterfowl from a motorized vessel that is underway. To the OP - I personally don't like shooting out of my kayak - but I've also got a super cheap pelican. I mainly use it to get to my spots and then hide it. If the opportunity arises though it can be fun jump shooting ducks out of the yak.

Thought so, thanks for clarification. Can you hunt squirrels from a kayak? Can’t find anything on TPWD.
