Anyone driving a Ford Transit?
We're considering getting one, doing a little converting instead of buying a travel trailer/RV.
Looking at the high roof and the 3.5 ecoboost motor.
Hoping to get some real honest information. Pros and Cons.
Thanks!

Wife and I test drove both the 3.7 and 3.5 ecoboost. She didn't drive, however, she was also blown away from the difference in power from the ecoboost. We were able to narrow our choice down to an ecoboost and the medium roof height. We're very blessed and excited to hit the road for the next couple 3 years. If anyone has any information about these transit vans, please share. Thanks!

We had a pair of them at work, seemed to hold up ok except for the plastic outside door handles.... had to keep a couple in stock since they broke pretty often. This was a work vehicle though...

SHG 59, thanks, this gives us some good ideas, we just need our to be ready for travel, not so much for full-time living.

Have driven many, most were destined to be used commercially and were loud as you might expect. Took one to Houston to a hotel and it had seats for passengers and was much quieter. I think they handle very well when driving, lots of pep from the eco-boost. Traveling at 75 to 80 mph and passing a truck you will feel the effect of the wind as you pass then all is well. Be sure you are happy with the leg room. Were not particularly fuel efficient.

We have 5 kids nd looked at the Ford, but ended up with the Nissan NV passenger van. It has been great over the last 18 months, and 3 cross country trips. If you are looking at the Ford you should look at the Nissan.

No personal experience. My FIL drives one as a work vehicle. He is a big guy 6' 6" and 330 or so and he says he likes the layout for a bigger person and its comfortable. I think his has quite a few miles racked up on it already with no problems.

Unfortunately for the Nissan dealer must be a commercial Nissan dealer. However, we have not had to have any service at a dealership yet. In the 26k we have put on it we have only done oil changes and tire rotation.

One of the guys I served with in the Army had a Transit, but it was a small one. He converted it into a small camper just for himself. A bed, cabinet with a sink, and a closet. He lived on the road about half the year. It was basically his "tent" with wheels and a motor. Every few days he would spend the night in a motel or at some friends place and get civilized, clean up and a few days later back on the road. He was single with a lady friend in a lot places. He spent 4 days with us in Ruidoso before his nomad life called him back.

That's basically what we want to do as well, we are retired military so we have access to all the bases for lodging where available and hotels and family/friends everywhere else. We like the idea of being able to "stealth" camp and basically go unnoticed as opposed to the typical RV. The RV would no doubt be more comfortable, but we don't intend to be on the road for more than the next couple three years.
