Started hunting coyotes last week, addicting I have killed five now and have used my deer rifle 7mm-08 and it has really tore them up. Want i rifle for small game like that. 223, 204, 22-250(can i use a 22mag succsefully?) something along that line, Anybody have one for sale or know were i can get one cheap. Times are tough and the cash flow is low.

I have seen nice ones in pawnshops for under 300 bucks. Remember that everything in the pawnshop is negotiable. Savage makes the Stevens 200 for about 300 bucks new. Keep an eye on the classifieds here also. Good luck with your search.

Look for a 223. I would look for a Savage, reasonable prices and a great gun for the money. As stated pawnshops are a good place to look. The scope will be a big issue, good ones are not cheap, with tight finances you are better off settling for something in the 3x9 variable range, the lower end prices will suffice, but you will lose some clarity and light gathering capabilities. Some people bad mouth Simmons but for the price they are a good scopes it is what I would look for.

I've killed more with a 22mag than anything else, but most of those were headshot around 100yards or less.

.243 with a smaller grain round is also a good bet.

Don't forget the 257 roberts!
I'm a 30-06 man myself, but the 257 roberts comes in second. It's a great caliber for anything in Texas. With 85gr. loads it will smoke a yote so clean it won't know what hit it.
It's also a very good white tail/mule deer round as well. Low recoil, so a good caliber for a kid or maybe the wife or girlfriend. It's THE all around caliber for Texas IMHO.

you could try non expanding bullets in the 7mm08, an FMJ should minimize pelt damage

I like the .222 and the .223 both. The .222 is great for prarie dogs too. Either are also great for pigs too. Shoot them piggies right in the ear or the nose and they fall over flat.
