No, I /we already know you make the best steak at home yaddy yaddy da. I am talking going out to eat. Where do you recommend and where do you veer away from? In Midland the best two I can think of are Texas Roadhouse and Saltgrass.
I have tried and lord how these stay in business is beyond me. Logans, Cattle Barron (I have heard the Cattle Barron in Ruidoso is great though), and by far the very worst here is Outbacks and Longhorn. Shame we had Longhorn in Lubbock a couple of yrs ago and it was decent.

Its tough to get a real good steak without going to Bob's, Ruth Chris, Mortons and Del Frisco's tier restaurants. One of the best restaurant steaks I have had was at Bohannan's in SA.There are some one off places like Perini Ranch and the Bee Hive that are excellent. I veer away from Outback, Texas Roadhouse, Logans, but will eat at Saltgrass, and I like it for the most part. I have ate at the Cattle Barron in Ruidoso twice and will not again. The one in Hobbs can be decent at times, but they lack flavor, I usually order something else beside steak, they have several other items that are good consistently. This just reminded me of a place in Hobbs called Saxony, its probably the best steak I have had in NM. With all that being said, I still find myself stopping by Texas Roadhouse for the little six ounce sirloin and a salad for lunch occasionally when I am on the road.

That's why I gave up eating steaks out. I can do better with prime tenderloin at home. I pass up the steaks while eating out a order something that I don't do at home.

Bohannon’s in SA is a good place for steak. Three Forks in Dallas was great when we were there. Pappa’s, Ruth’s Chris, and Vic and Anthony’s are great in Houston. I rate Kirby’s, Fleming’s, and Perry’s a notch below those.
Some folks like Smith and Wollenski’s, but the times I ate there I wasn’t that impressed.
Thankfully, I did all my research on expense account.

We’ll be eating axis and venison steaks at home for a while. If we want beef steak, Custom Meats in Decatur has very fine steaks.

Hermann and Sons in Hondo has a pretty good ribeye.

If eating in Stephenville, try Ruby's. It is hands down the best steak I have had. I've only had it once, can't wait to get back home for another meal.

In Stephen's county, really enjoy Canyon Road just south of Breckenridge. Always get the ribeye cooked over mesquite fire. I have eaten more ribeyes there than anywhere and they are excellent. Just tell them very medium rare. I can't remember ever ordering a steak at a chain.

Logans is disgusting, they use lower grade choice. Never crossed my mind to order a steak at a large chain that lets you toss peanuts on the floor.

Last two times I had a steak at Saltgrass it was pathetic excuse for a ribeye.
I generally try not to order a steak out unless we are going to a more spendy steak house, which is a place we don't go often. In San Antonio ive been to Ruth Cris never had a bad one there and Kirby's Prime Steakhouse a few times and they have been good. There is a Bob's Chop house I think I want to give it a try next.

saddest ribeye I've ever seen. Their sirloin isn't bad and it's 4 times thicker.

Eddy V's in Austin. It's named "Eddy V's Prime Seafood," but I had their steaks back to back with Ruth's Chris and the Eddy V's steak was loads better. Better atmosphere, as well. Lots more fun.
Edited to add: I like to eat in the lounge and enjoy the live music. Usually a 3-piece band playing oldies. Think Rat Pack.
