I keep several cans of both in my work pickup.....nothing worse getting hung out on location for hours or days without food.....that happened to me once over 10 years ago....never again.....

it's VYE - AINEE

(and you don't call 'em sausages, not in this part of the world-
they're just referred to as VYE-AINEES )

if one doesn't want to eat any sardines or viennas and
crackers or potted meat while out in the bush (or anywhere
else) i can only say that they're not hungry enough.

everything can't be a blankety-blankin' porter-blankin'-house steak.

that's the way I grew up calling them too until I asked for some in a grocery store in a larger town and got a wtf look. then I said you know, the little sausage looking things in a can ... to which I got a roflmao ... evidently that's not the proper way to pronounce.

but yeah, I grew up eating all those various canned foods, Vienna, Sardines, deviled ham, spam, corned beef hash, chicken spread, Chef Boyardee spaghetti & meat balls, ravioli, etc. Back then, there weren't any expiration dates on the cans, so 20+ years was likely just fine.

i wouldn't say mis-pronounce as much as where you were raised.
there are many here from elsewhere that say "SEW-DAH" when they
are meaning "cold drink", like what you buy out of a coke box,
maybe when at a shove-lay house getting your truck serviced.

there are also quite a few in every region that incorrectly call
a wheel a rim, and say they use a vice when they really mean vise.

Vienna has been a city for over 400 years and there is only one way to pronounce it . Any other way is miss-pronouncing it . There are dictionaries , they show how to say the word . Calling something what it is not or using the incorrect word is not miss-pronouncing it .

I've always got some cans packed in my bag. I like the smoked, regular and jalapeno. It's been a family tradition when my son and I go fishing in South LA every year I get a picture of him eating his can of viena sausages. I've got 4 so far. Should make a pretty good set of photos in a couple more years.

This is too funny. My wife, from AL, please forgive me for that, and I argue over the pronunciation every time I buy em. I still say VEE-ENNA. Keep them i the boat and in hunting back pack. At home I like to cut them long ways in half, lay on top of pice of cheese same size as the cracker i am putting it on. LOL
