We all have our favorite species to shoot, was wondering on if my friends are justified in harassing me over my favorite species. Personally Spoonbills are better than Mallards to me, as Mallards are just too basic of a duck.

I think I get most excited when a big group of pintail decoy and then wigeon next.
We don't get a lot of Mallards here so it's nice when we shoot a few them as well.

Nothing gets me as excited as mallards. They’re the only reason I drive to Kansas every year.

Shovlers just look so cool, because instead of being a majority brown or black they're white. This makes them standout more than other ducks. The only downside is the average shovler decoy is more expensive than the average mallard decoy.

I've been a gulf coast hunter all my life. There's something about the opportunity to shoot a Mallard that makes my adrenaline jump more than anything. I never knew how good we had it (my early hunting days began in the 90s) shooting them years ago. Now I'm lucky to take 1 in a season on the coast (although I have now expanded to various annual trips that afford more opportunity). Pintails and canvasbacks are a close second and third.

Definitely have to go with coot on this one because you can shoot 15 of those suckers a day. If it flies it dies

Straight limit of green is my favorite but pretty rare these days in the areas I hunt.

I find that gadwalls are the best way to go for some reason I always end up shooting the juveniles got a ticket last season down at the coast for shooting a grebe ole son came right into the decoys so I done lit him up. Sure wish the warden wouldn’t have taken it would’ve love to see how it eats.

If we're talking for the sake of hunting. I'm a big fan of Gadwall (cause they are dumb and decoy the best) and Shovelers (cause they're pretty). However if we're talking the best for the table. I'll take a limit of greenwings all DAY.
I do tend to like a diver hunt every know and then cause it can be fun shooting and larger groups.

Widgeons for me. One of the most vocal ducks I've ever hunted and I just love their whistle. You can have a conversation with them while they're circling

Pintail is my favorite kicker duck, can would come second. But 5 greenheads and pintail kicker, a strap don’t get any better. There are other rare ducks you would obviously like to shoot like cinnamon teal. But I love shooting a limit of GWT, easy to clean, and a tasty duck. But mallard steak, salt and pepper med rare, is delish, the best I would say..

Ring necks and Teal are the most fun to shoot as they quickly dive in and out of decoys.
