I was going to book an Elk Hunt for 2019 through Cabelas Signature Events but they're sold out
I am going to try New Mexico next year
a quick search shows FishTail to be a good outfitter
If you've gone through Fishtail or other Outfitters, I'd like to hear your experiences good/bad
I am also open with elk hunts on Indian Reservations
Thanks

If you can afford the Indian land then more power to you! While I have hunted a national forest a couple of times back when one could get a tag over the counter, I have hunted with an outfitter only once. That outfitters is Zane Streator (Streater). He lives in Texas but has several ranches in New Mexico where he hunts. It is a guaranteed tag. I saw that he has gone up some since I hunted with him a few years ago. I recently spoke with the guide that I had and was told that ranchers are wanting more for tags now. Saw a bunch of animals and the bull I took was a good one. The hunting was not hard at all. At least not on the ranch I was on.

If you want to hunt private land in N.M., the outfitter will have Landowner tags and that will be a factor in cost (5000 to 10000). State tag for a bull is approx. $650. If you are wanting a true trophy might look at Broadmouth Outfitters, They have a reputation of producing truly big bulls. I think they have taken the worlds record (approx. 500 in). They hunt in Idaho and Utah.

If you want an excellent chance at a great bull, you might try The Lodge at Chama Land and Cattle Co in Chama NM. Very high success rate and a 5 star lodge. Owned by the Jicarilla Apache Nations. Amazing place and Cabelas sends customers to them.

I’m almost sure Carter Country out of Houston has a ranch in NM. Look them up.

They are also offering hunts in Mexico.
