Hunting western Alberta next year. Looking for new outerwear for potential negative temperatures. Have looked at some of the high end gear like King of the Mountain but just can’t justify $2000 for a parka and bib that I will not use often. I prefer a bib and parka over a coverall and really like the Cabela’s Stand Hunter Extreme parka and bib. I can find the bib but unfortunately the parka is out of stock and per Cabela’s will likely be discontinued. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Ask you guide how much you will be truck hunting vs stand.

One thing I can tell you about the stand hunter extreme it’s like being in a straight jacket. It’s stiff and heavy.

Sitka has a good cool weather line. I would also look at goose down with high fill weights(extra puffy)

Will be sitting all day in either pop ups or tri-pods. No truck hunting. Outfitter has made recommendations on all gear although some is no longer available. Thought for sure the THF would provide some excellent advice and/or recommendations.

I bought some of the Midway brand cold weather gear a couple of years ago and I've been really impressed with it. It's reasonable priced as well. I grew up in Vermont and I have recommended this stuff to my brothers...I think it was the Frasier Ridge Fleece jacket and pants..

Spend the money on really good socks if you don't have them...

I have the Cabelas stand hunter bibs and parka and they are great.
The coldest temp I have hunted with them was in Kansas one year.
It was 9 degrees and wind out of the north about 20 mph. I was hunting in an Ameristep doghouse pop up ground blind. I had a heater buddy with me, but I stayed so warm I did not have to even use the heater.

Are you hunting front a blind or spot and stalk? I ask since those require different clothing options. I'll go on the assumption of stationary hunting.

There's the Heater Body Suit. Never used one but do see them in use on a lot of shows (even when they are not a sponsor).

I do have first hand experience with Arctic Shield. Toasty warm in -12F and 30MPH winds. It's great for stationary hunting but too much movement and you'll sweat your tail off.

On a related note, prepare for weather forecast changes leading right up until you leave for your hunt. When I went to Alberta a couple of years ago, the forecast was subzero temps. A couple of days before I left the forecast changed. The weather warmed up significantly; lows in the mid-30s and highs in the 60s.

Heater body suit is good. When I was younger and didn't have money, we used sleeping bags in the stand. Don't laugh, they work.

Anyone have the heater body suit? How do you like it? Not having your arms free seems like it could be a problem if you need to make a quick shot. Thoughts? Any other extreme cold weather recommendations out there? Thanks!

I have something similar to the body suit for much cheaper $$$ . Look on Amazon for tactical sleeping bag with arms . This works great if just sitting in the stand not walking around. For much cheaper then the body suit

I hunt frequently in eastern Montana (late season) were temps range from 30 to well below zero and wind is always prevalent. Through trial and error over a couple decades the best product I've found is Wiggy's. I use "fossil" suede bibs with the marpat Antarctic parka. Lamilite socks and pac liners are worth 10x their weight in gold. Made in Colorado and great value for what you get. My two cents....Wiggy's.com

Get a good puffy jacket for under your big coat. Take a wool blanket and tuck it under your feet and over your lap. Maybe a small buddy heater for the blind.
Merino under layers are the best starting point for layering up to stay warm.
The little stick on tore warmers work great for your boots too, stick them on top of your socks.

Most of us forget about the first layer. I highly recommend WinterSilks.com (no affiliation). The silk underwear as a first layer has been a life saver. Layer on top of it and stay warm.

Sitka Incinerator suit is stupid warm.

Anything with wool. Sportsman's warehouse has a good selection on warm hunting clothes that you could purchase online. Layers are the key-

I am at work but they have a great base layer that wasn't expensive for extreme cold temperatures. I was hunting in 9 degree to 25 degree weather in Montana and was not cold wearing this base layer and first lite pants.
