Just picked up a Ruger Guide Gun in 338RCM. My comfort range is 200-250 yds
Would like to stay approx $400
Thanx

Now I lay me down to sleep
Besides my bed a Sig I keep
If I should wake to you inside
A corners van will be your last ride

My default recommendation for general hunting is the 3-9 Trijicon Accupower for $462. Standard duplex makes sense if you are shooting over 300 yards.

VX-R 2-7 firedot duplex for hunting.

Or a higher quality fixed 4x. I ran both on my 338-06 and only preferred the 2-7 because of the firedot.

Hey Skylar, tell Leupold to make a FX-2 Firedot. I would buy a few.

What other scope do you compare the accupower glass to?

It's difficult to compare Trijicon to anything within this price range, because it simply surpasses everything sub $900. It's unfortunate that Zeiss discontinued the Conquest line, because in my opinion that was the Accu-Power's only competition.

Solid recommendation Scott, well done sir.

Thanks Skyler. It's a pretty amazing $500 scope. I agree the glass is fantastic. I have 2 of them with a Mil Square reticle (one Red, one Green). It's not a scope made for dialing but it's great hunting scope and mil square is good for elevation holds at longer ranges. I'm really surprised it's not talked about more.

Doug at Cameraland has some great deals on Meopta Meostar scopes, particularly that 3.5-10x44. As everyone is well aware by now, Meopta made these for Zeiss (Conquest), and they are excellent. Meopta's CS is top notch as well.

Meopta, SWFA and Trijicon have become my favorite brands for getting excellent quality well above their price point.

If I was going to buy a scope in that price range, this would be the one I would buy. But I’m a Leupold guy.
