Not really being a bow hunter; but wondering how you do it, because you don’t have a firearm. How do you guys finish off a wounded deer. With a knife? With more shots with the bow-like a shot in the neck or such. I know every deer doesn’t drop dead in it’s tracks, some have to be hunted a second time and the killed. I’ve had to use a knife when I had a rifle; and it was kinda weird.

I have hit two high and broke their back. I took a second shot with my bow through the vitals on both occasions. I have only had one that I shot poorly and had to be shot again. I knew the shot wasn't perfect....so I backed out for an hour and a half. Located her and she was in pretty bad shape. She stood up and walked 3 yards and stopped. I took a follow up and finished her. In my younger days I would finish then with a knife. I am less brave or more wise now.
I wish stupidity was not so handsomly rewarded.

I felt like Daniel Boone stabbing it in the neck.

I've only had one that I had to finish off. I hit her high with a spine shot. She dropped in her tracks and would have died if left alone. However, I had no intention of listening to the noise she was making any longer than necessary so I went to her and cut her throat. It sucked, but it was better than listening to her until she died. Every other deer I've killed with a bow I just made the shot, waited for a while, and followed the blood trail to a dead deer (except one unfortunate incident).

I prefer to get down from the stand and quickly put another arrow in the pump station.

Another arrow in thee heart or lungs and it is over pretty quickly.
Do not use a firearm to dispatch an archery deer. Think about it, try explaining to a Game Warden which came first the bullet hole or the arrow

I had it happen one time and I talked to the Doe (not that she understood me) letting her know I didn’t want her to suffer for my mistake and cut the throat. Ended quickly!

Sometimes being out there is about the hunt, the kill and the celebration. Sometimes it's about the hunt for what you can accomplish together.
