I have only used handloads and Remington yellow-and-green box Core-Lokt factory ammo in my 336. Interestingly, the Remington 150's shot much better groups than the 170's.

My 336 is a little funny with the Hornady Leverevolution stuff. I don't know why. I really wanted to use them because of the better ballistics.
Mine shoots 170's better than 150's and likes the Federal blue box ammo best of all, which is awesome because it's also one of the cheaper options. I guess every gun is different.
Buy a box of every brand you can get your hands on and try each one out. Your rifle will let you know which one to use.

I noticed the same thing with mine but by resting the forearm in my hand rather than a rest really shows when shooting the FTX ammo.

Green and yellow box, 150gr or 170gr doesn’t make much difference in my rifle.

Mine shoots core-lokts and Winchester’s very well, 150 grain in both. Mine did not like the Hornady levereverolutions.

Until two years ago I used 150gr CoreLokts. My Glenfield 30A did not shoot ANY brand of 170gr-when sighting in, my targets looked more like I was patterning a shotgun.
Two years ago I had Chad (on this forumn) reload a batch of 100 for me in 150gr flat point. Price was more than what I paid for factory, but my accuracy was improved.

My present 30-30 shoots 170 gr. Federal Fusion very nicely as does my 30-30 AI. Got good results and quit looking.
