that is what I am finding stock probably ok power adders better off doing the Allison trans which was what I was kicking around but for 7000 I could replace a few trans
if that's the big prob I will probably jump on it if it looks as good as in pics asking 5000 hard to go wrong unless its a piece

7000 might buy 2 factory transmissions, or one quality built transmission that will handle the power

Bomb proof engine.
Put a manual 6 speed behind that engine. They just couldn't make an automatic worth a damn until 2007.

you should be able to pick up a remanufactured HD transmission for $2500-2700. I recently did that with my '09 6.7, Jasper heavy duty remanufactured installed about $5k but that was the 68RFE, not the 46RE. Came with a 3 year 36k mile warranty. I had the work done by Stone's Automotive in Georgetown (inner loop, northeast side) that has done about 99% of all our non-factory automotive work for over 20 years.

The 48RE was a poor design from the start, many aftermarket fully built transmissions go the extra steps & costs to fix these design flaws.
SunCoast plsd-48RE-2X about $4200. BD performance-power tow about $3200. ATS stage 1 about $4,400. All have warranties & will stand behind them. All three have dealers/authorized shops in Tx.
Sure there are a few diesel performance shops that can do a quality rebuild as can many transmission shops, but without fixing the inherent flaws you'll be back in the trans shop every 80,000 - 140,000 miles.
Depending on if it is a 600 (2003 - 2004.5) or 610 ( mid year 2004.5 - 2007) series engine, a 2005 year model pickup could have either engine depending on actual build date. Common problems with the Gen 3 5.9l engine, in order of frequency. Lift pump, FCA, CP3 - cascade overflow valve, rail pressure sensor or rail pressure relief valve, steering gear box coming loose or cracking around mounts 2whd & 4whd, injectors.
Good reliable engines, not at all bomb proof but easy to repair, horrible auto trans unless upgraded.

Absolutely stay away from anything ATS. Get someone to build the trans with goerend parts. Prob get a damn good one with billet shafts and good valve body and torque converter for around 4K installed

There were with 06 models. Had to install offset ball joint to align. Also rough on steering boxes. I had to install aftermarket steering box with heavy duty steering shaft brace.
Thanks, Billy

Had a 2004 5.9 4x4 auto and with over 200,000 miles and pulled loaded stock trailers all over Texas and New Mexico.. Never had a problem with the trans. Let Dodge service it like they said and had no problems. Wish I'd a kept it.

They are fine if you don’t up the horsepower. That generation of Ram with an automatic and a programmer is going to eat transmissions Indeed they did. Any programmer you put on them, will completely grenade a stock transmission.

The cummins just can't be beat, like someone said the automatics back the had a few issues. Mostly I think because od juicing up the engine. Bigger injectors, tuners, etc.
