Looking for a good cold weather, pheasant dog. Pudelpointer caught my eye, but I don't know anyone who has one, never ran into one in the field either.

Anyone have experience hunting upland with these dogs?

Good noses? Temperament? Are they good family dogs, do they get along with other dogs?

If you are not an avid hunter, it would not be fair to the dog. These are versatile Dogs and hunt it all very well, it's just how they come. They are not kennel dogs and are very loyal, they have everything you want in hunting/best friend.

I have one that just turned 2. Very affectionate family dog and good in the house. Gets along well with my old lab. I shot wild pheasants over his points at 3 1/2 months and wild quail at 4 1/2 months. Great nose with a lot of point. As a one year old I shot wild quail, pheasant, Huns, grouse, and woodcock over his points. Very biddable dog.
As mentioned, these dogs are extremely versatile. Mine is also a strong retriever, water or land. In addition to retrieving upland birds, I have used him to retrieve doves, ducks, and geese. I also used him to recover a gut shot buck deer for a friend where a 16 hour old track is what he had to work with.
It is my first Pudelpointer, so my experience is limited. Mine had a heck of a one year old season, and made a believer out of me though.
A word of caution: these dogs have extremely high prey drive. Although he has learned to tolerate my wife's house cat, I would not trust him, unsupervised, around any small furry or feathered animals.

Have only heard GREAT things about them. The Pudlepointer alliance has some AWESOME breeding standards and requirement for basic Navhda requirements. Definitely on my short list for bigger dogs when we get more room (I've got a Jagdterrier currently)

I've hunted an upland bird or two with one, or three, or five. Cold weather, not a problem, now hot is a different story! Upland birds, yeah not a problem. As good as anything there is when it comes to pheasants, at least in my opinion anyway! Mine will retrieve as good as any lab I've ever had, has not a mean bone in his body, loves my kids, and gets along with every other dog he's ever been around.

I've owned GSPs for 8 years. My latest one is a good hunter, but doesn't like cold weather, which can be a problem when hunting the Midwest.

For those of you who own, can you suggest kennels? Found one in Miami with a kennel in Feb, but looking for references on others.

A buddy of mine has a Drather, and she goes after everything. Like yours she too is an exceptional dog.
