The last molasses block I put out was gone in two days....the hogs ate it like candy. I will never waist money like that again.

Not even sure the salt and mineral blocks are worth it. In Central Texas (Bastrop County) the deer must get everything they need from the environment. Tried both salt and mineral blocks (and even added Buck Juice on top) and most of the time they just weather from the rain. In 5 years of sitting in the stands or looking at trail-cam video, I have NEVER seen a deer touch one. The hogs just push them over thinking there may be some good grubs underneath.

I have used several mineral blocks and salt blocks. I keep a trophy rock available year round. I've never actually seen one be used, but it's there and they last forever, so if the deer want it...
I have frequently had deer on trail cams hitting AniLogics mineral block. It's what I use pretty consistently now because it's the only one that I have repeatedly seen deer hit. They don't last nearly as long as the trophy rock, but our deer seem to like it. Have to put a new block out every 6-8 weeks depending on weather conditions.

If you have an area that cattle/horses can’t access...drop by the local Coop, and get some goat mineral and a sack of loose salt...mix it together, and put it in a tub. Make sure you drill a few holes in the tub for water to drain...it works as good as anything I have tried and lasts a good long while.

I liked the deer cane liquid. It's cheap enough and the deer seem to like it ok. I just pour it in the hole underneath the feeder.

I haven't used any kind of blocks in years since where I hunt you can't put anything out that the hogs will eat, and that just about includes everything.

They paw at the ground and dig it out a bit if you keep baiting the same location. And no it’s not hogs they are fenced out!

Just out of curiosity, try pouring it next to the feeder to see if the paw at the new spot. I'd be curious too!

I used to hunt an old gravel pit on a natural draw to the river. Poured some of the deer cane on the ground and within weeks they had pawed a hole as big around as a washtub. I kept pouring in the same spot and they kept hitting and pawing. I took some decent deer off the place but lost it when the owner died and kids sold it. I’m not sure it was just the deer cane or a combination of that and all the natural mineral in that old gravel pit.
I’ve tried it on other places and never had the same results. Mystery to me.

The last molasses block I put out was gone in two days....the hogs ate it like candy. I will never waist money like that again. I had one make it two hours before the hogs had finished it, I have the pictures somewhere. I thought it was a good idea to break it into some smaller pieces so the deer could get at it easier. My idea worked great, just the wrong critters showed for dinner.

I've put out the mineral blocks like you buy for cattle and have had pics of bobcats, coyotes, deer, and hogs licking it. Only $6-8 and usually last several months....I don't mind spending a few dollars to help out the deer even if the benefit is minor.
I've also had really good luck with Lucky Buck mineral. I spread a little out in several areas throughout the year and always get a bunch of pictures of deer at the sites.

We put salt and mineral blocks out year round, something is benefitting, has to be wildlife so in my opinion they have some benefit. Price is cheap enough.

I've used the yellow tinted sulfur salt blocks for years. I still recall as a kid before feeders watching deer come into a water trough area and licking on the sulfur salt block put out for the cattle. They last a long time and are cheap enough to toss out at each feeder location. I tried some of the brown mineral blocks but they deteriorate too quickly depending on the weather.

I get the molasses blocks, drill a hole through center, and then hang from tree using an all thread eye bolt. Had a critter problem (and rain), so purchased a squirrel hood and hung above the block. They last maybe 3 months and I have tons of photos of deer hitting them. I hang them high enough that hogs can't reach. I have no idea if it helps much or not, but just another attractant to the property.
