My Daughter has drawn a youth hunt at Colorado Bend State Park. We have never been. Anyone ever drawn a hunt for this area that might be able to share some pointers? Hunt dates are December 1st and 2nd.

Ask for the compartment left of the campground. Then follow the trail that goes to the primitive camping sites, or the walk in camping sites. Go on past that till you find a spot to set up a ground blind and able to see 100 yds or better.

Hi! My son was on a youth hunt in Dec 2015, he did good as well as most kids in the hunt. Great park, lots of deer and great staff.

The park is very thick for the most part, but you can find openings to corn and watch; I was in compartment 2, near a trail to Gorman falls. The way it worked when I was there was, kids were distributed into compartments, then all parents drove the compartmet and decided among ourselves where each wanted to hunt in the compartment.

I've hunted there three times. I've found the best area is the one on the right side of the road as you enter the state land. I've seen the most deer there. Also, if you like fishing for cats, take a rod and reel and fish the river at lunch. Some good fishing.

My daughter got drawn as well, so we will be there the same time.
