Talked to David Synatsky about it once, and he felt it wasn't natural and shouldn't be used. The Dept. wouldn't be using it in the research area. The deer would never see it for 48 weeks, and then it would magically appear for the hunt weeks. Really doesn't provide much nutrition, but gives them a heck of a sugar rush for a while!
I believe it was not always allowed, and for a while there no corn was allowed during any of the hunts. Just attractant mixes and processed pellets. It really wasn't until corn was processed properly and labeled as low-aflatoxin that some state WMA's started allowing full baiting. My last two trips down (ADA and YDE) we were allowed to use anything.
Oh yeah, you also really have to be careful about timing of the dove hunting, so as to not get into a Federal jam!!!

When you hunted on the 2 mentioned hunts, did you "bait"? If so, did you see any deer activity to speak of over your bait sites? I would assume the pigs enjoyed it!

On my first GDE David told us we could use Golden Deer nuggets. Absolutely loved them and javis too I think that works better than corn myself. We killed 145 and 172, and two 6 yr old 7 points

We hunted the Chap last year and corn was allowed, we were on a doe hunt and saw 19 bucks, 10 of which would have been shooters.....no does. Did take a monster pig and a javelina. They definitely flocked to the corn because they never get it otherwise.

SOUNDS, ENCOURAGING, TO SAY THE LEAST! I'VE NEVER ARCHERY HUNTED THE BRUSH COUNTRY, MYSELF. HAD SOME CHANCES TO RIFLE HUNT IT WHEN I WAS A KID, AND IN MID 80'S LATER ON...NEVER ON A HIGH FENCE PLACE, THOUGH. I SUPPOSE A DEER COULDN'T PASS UP A BIT OF CORN ANYWHERE THAT ITS PUT IN FRONT OF EM! MY GOOD FRIEND HAD A LEASE WEST AND SOUTH OF THE CHAP IN THE MID 80'S. I HUNTED IT LATER IN THE SEASON, BUT HAD GREAT LUCK RATTLIN'. 2 YEARS AGO, I DREW A RIFLE TAG ON The Matador, and the weather changed the last day of the hunt. I rattled in 5 bucks that last morning, with one almost running over me! He was THE ONE, I wasn't able to take an ethical shot at the BEAST! The other 4 were right at the legal criteria mark, so I didn't take the shot on any of those, either. Great hunt there, though! Taking the horns with me Dec.4th to the Chap! Thanks for all your feedback!

i think they allow baiting on most of the hunts and they use it for surveys. So, definitely getting more than once a year. we used it on a youth hunt and saw deer every sit but one.

Yes you can use corn and it has to meet certain requirements check out the rules and regs for your hunt. I was there in January and got a doe/javi.. great place hope to return

they recommend you bring portable blinds. Can you set up a few of them on the compartment you are hunting and leave them till your hunt is over or do they discourage that?
Let's go DOGE!!!!!

I would bring at least 2, the blinds they have are not very nice. Two will allow you to set up for any wind condition.

We were drawn for the Chap several years ago and it was during a drought. So they did not allow baiting that year because they said it would be way too easy. They said all of the deer would have come to the corn in that compartment. So our hunt was a bit tougher for sure. I would think you all would be allowed to bait this year.

Years ago, when there was a different manager they did not allow baiting. But I all of the hunts I have been on in the last 5 or 6 years have allowed baiting.
