Saw this post earlier offering canned duck hunts. It's not my thing and I kinda see it as fuel to the fire for anti hunters. I mean, they showed a video of a couple hundred tame ducks in a cage and a bunch of pictures of dead ducks right after. Don't really see it as a good image for hunters.

The only way I would participate is if I were training a pup. Even then this is not necessary. I have a lot more respect for myself, my sport and the animal than to do this.

I wouldn't call it a "hunt' --- it is a shoot ----- right now that is more common on quail and pheasants than hunting wild birds. It is the future of "hunting". I have been on a duck 'shoot' in Miss ------------ you can not have one where there are wild birds, aka - no flyway -------- You keep telling them to release birds till you cant afford it any more. I think it was 10 birds came with the package and you could shoot all you wanted for $15 ea after that. Anti hunters are not going to be placated no matter what, so I wouldn't worry much about them.

This lodge is in southern Louisiana. They claim to shoot wild birds along with the tame ones. Just curious as to why you believe this is the future of hunting? If hunting resorted to only this I'd hang my hat and call it quits

As long as the birds are being picked up and cleaned to be eaten I see no problem with it. Like mentioned above, anti hunters don't care if we travel to the most remote areas of the world to kill ducks or if we go to a flighted mallard shoot. They hate us either way.

Look on leases on this forum and see how many deer "hunts" are on fenced in places that let you shoot tame deer. LOTS -------- look on quail and pheasant hunts and see how many are release and shoot -------- dont think it is the future of hunting???? -------- compare that to 15 yrs ago ----- there were almost none then. WAKE UP and join the real world. Brannan hunts are in Lucedale Miss,,, as I stated you can not have a canned duck hunt where there is a flyway,, if you mixed wild ducks with tame ducks the wardens would shut it down in 5 mnutes.

Many years ago I deer hunted the Squaw Mountain Ranch outside Jacksboro. As we were going out to the stands, there were a group of guys who had been playing cards and drinking all night long. Shortly after first light, those same drunks were having a "duck shoot". You could hear the guy up at the barn yelling "Ya'll ready"? To which the drunks would yell back, "yeah". Then boom, boom, boom, boom...you get the picture. One of the MOST disgusting things I've ever seen from an "outfitter".

No skin off my arse either way. If that floats your boat go for it. Not for me tho. All the things that go into the chase are what make it fun. Pulling the trigger is just a small part of it.

If you think an anti hunter thinks you are better than a guy that goes on a flighted mallard hunt because you shoot wild ducks only you are sorely mistaken. Maybe I am biased because I have shot in a half dozen Columbaire Pigeon Shoots and they were fun as hell. I also don't give a F what an anti hunter thinks about me.

That one dude is rocking a strong v neck or an extremely droopy collar. Not my cup of tea, but if that is what you like go for it.

It doesn't matter what the anti hunters think. They'll always hate us. It matter what ammo we give them to convince the neutral people who don't hunt that we are bad. That's when things will go south for us.

I mean the way they're advertising. Videos of tame birds in pens along side photos of hunters with those same birds dead on a strap. That's pretty good stuff to use against us.

If a flighted mallard shoot convinces a "neutral person" to become an anti hunter then they were already an anti hunter and just didn't know it...

Either you understand that to eat meat an animal dies or you don't Bingo. If these guys were torturing these ducks I would understand the outrage but they are fed corn, given water, and then killed as quickly and as humanely as possible just like all of the wild ducks we kill.

Nope, not my gig. Does not fit into what I consider sporting. I'm not in any position to cast stones though. I have shot "flyers" while training both pointers and retrievers. I dont consider that sporting either. I don't view either as hunting and PETA would have a field day with me, the same as a canned hunt.... As long as someone is willing to pay good money to hit the easy button, and It remains legal, canned hunts will be around, whether I like them or not. I can't envision hunting ever morphing into anything like it though. For most that type hunt is never gonna pass the smell test.
