What rifle are you using if expecting to see multiple pigs from a deer blind and then driving around trying to shoot from mule?

Have Heavy .308 bolt and m4 style 5.56 but trying to decide if I need to turn the AR into something more effective or just stick to by bolt rifle.

7.63x39 upper to fit on the lower AR15. Cheap ammo good to 150 yd.

Ar in 6.8 is the way to go for me. 300 blackout is ok at closer ranges. Just finished a 224 Valkyrie build so waiting on a hunt or two to give some feed back on it's effectiveness.

For that exact style of hunting I have a 6.8 spc

Uses the same lower you already have. Much more lightweight and handy with less recoil than ar 10

To make what you have into one - barrel, 6.8 bolt, mags

Don’t get a blackout they suck

No one hunts with the 6.5 Grendel? Is decent 6.8 ammo pyrethrum Available?

Was looking at the gen II DPMS as the weight seemed much closer to the 5.56

16" 6.8 SPC II with factory Hornady 120 SST ammo. I went through a bunch of rifle/caliber/ammo combinations before I figured it out.

I use my DPMS LR 243 with hand loaded 85 grain Sierra Gamekings for pigs . I haven't had one complain about it yet.

If you're going 16" go 6.8SPC if you're going pistol/SBR go 300BLK 8" suppressed. Its a tiny little package and a hammer at 100 yards and in.

Don't handload for it. It'll piss off your buddies when you ask them to crawl around in a dark cornfield looking for your Lapua brass after you mag dump on a group of hogs.

Well, a 16” 6.8 outperforms a 16” Grendel at typical pig hunting ranges (sub 200 yards) and has better factory ammo availability. I imagine this is why most people are recommending the 6.8 for this purpose. Nothing wrong with a 6.5 G, though.

I've had 3 Grendels. They work better in longer barrels. They'll still kill hogs out of a 16" barrel, but the 6.8 has more energy.

Daytime I use my 16” 6.8 and at night my 8.5” 300 BO. I like the 6.8 better and will eventually shorten my 6.8.

Aw hell no. This is a pig gun. Lapua brass will never see that chamber lol.

Every pig that fell on the other end of my 300 BLK would agree with you. They do suck, for the pigs. If I'm walking, my model 92 lever in 357 mag or my guide gun in 45/70 accompanies me cause they are easy to carry and fun! The 92 holds 11 357 mag shells.

I have em all, the usual suspects...and I have LOTS of hogs

2-AR-15's

1-AR-10 variant

Numerous bolt guns

But my new favorite for pigs the last year or two is the savage A17

If you can stay within 50-75 yards there's a lot of offer

I've killed many w that little .17 hmr to the head.

Follow up shots are super easy and fun...Ammo is CHEAP!

Mine will cover a quarter all day at 50

Killed about 50 hogs with a 8.5" 300 Blackout SBR...seems to work just fine on putting them down under 200 yards. Most drop immediately, a few make it 25 yards or so. The occasional big hog shot in the gut will require a follow up shot or two. The most important thing to me is compact size with my suppressor and thermal so that is why I went 300 BO.

I would go 6.8 if you are running a 16" barrel.
