When I lived in Lubbock we used to duck hunt public spots to the Northwest. It was always pretty hit or miss. Honestly your best bet will be to drive around and find some fields and ask landowner permission. Most farmers in that area are pretty open as long as you are polite and respectful.

Good Luck. I miss the hunting up in that area. Ducks, geese, and dove everywhere.

HA! You clearly haven't been up there in 5 or 6 years. The days of knocking on a door and just asking a farmer/landowner for permission to hunt are pretty much over.

Yep, definitely harder to find places. Just moved outside of town, so still trying to meet the land owners around me. Got a couple nice corners of native pasture across the road that hold a few pheasant and quail. Wouldnt be much to hunt but definitely nice to have training runs on for the pup.

Lots of farmers in the area are leased out to guides now, or have family who hunt.

lease something or hunt public. Luckily, I made the trip back to back years about ten years ago to catch an extra weekend of hunting at the end of October. Had phenomenal hunts for October in Texas. No problem at all getting water to hunt over. But just like all other good things....they come to an end. Parts of Oklahoma and Kansas were the same way, but are well on their way to the same thing. money, tv, and social media have ruined a lot of things

Here is what we did that had a lot of success. Look for non planted fields that are adjacent to milo fields. Some of the best dove hunting we had was sitting under a dead tree in the middle of a tall grass field that was about 200 yards away from a milo field. They aren't likely to be leased since nothing is planted on them but you will get a lot of flyover dove that are looking for a place to sit when entering or exiting a planted field.

Thanks for the tips. Got some promising feelers out on some places close to me that should be good for dove, quail, and water fowl on a couple of them. Will see how it turns out. Would like to get some good dog work in before i head north for pheasant in december
