Nobody asked for a proper scientific analysis. Whats better for 400 yards and in hunting a 6.5 creed or a 25-06. His opinion was 25-06.
If the question was different good chance the answer would be too.
What's better for 1/4 mile drag racing a stock 2005 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder or a stock 2018 Mustang GT 5.0? Same difference.

Under 400 yards, there's not a deer in TX that could tell the difference between being shot with a 25-06 vs a 6.5 creed. Recoil is also going to be close enough as to not notice the difference. So if your debating on the two, look at ammo availability as well as inherent accuracy. 6.5 creed was just adopted by the military, so it isn't going anywhere, and is only increasing in popularity. Rightfully so, because most of them just shoot. Case geometry matters, that's why rounds like ppc, and yes the creed just seem to always shoot most things well. If you ever want to play at shooting longer range it does that better as well, and there is plenty of factory ammo available for that also.

It would be interesting to see what the Creedmoor has done to new sales of the .308, .243 and 7mm-08.
I think it's eating in to all three but it's really going to hurt the 7mm-08. Bergara doesn't even offer a 7mm-08. I disagree. 7mm-08 seems like it's never had a big following to begin with. Of course Remington screwed the pooch with the cartridge, neutering it with light weight bullets. Handloaders know how to make the 7mm-08 shine. My bet is the 6.5 Creedmoor is cutting into .243 sales the most, and .308 sales as a tight second. That's what I expect too. Just a little more recoil than a .243 but much more capable, why not go 6.5? As for the .308, unless you plan on elk/bear/moose, you get less recoil and more long-range performance out of the 6.5. And with many of the tactical rifles now available in both, I'm betting the 6.5 is making some hay.

The .308 grows no moss in hitting damn hard out to 300 yards. And it has a far longer barrel life.

308 will kill wonderfully further than 99.5% of people can shoot in a hunting scenario. If you are a semi healthy adult and can't handle 308 recoil, you need to turn in your man card. I never even feel recoil when hunting.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you. So are you saying that a ford ranger is better or worse at a 1/4 mile than the stang? The 25-06 uses lots of powder to overcome poor ballistics which eventually catch up with it. The creed uses an efficient case and good ballistics to get a lot out of its package. Which one is the ranger and which one is the mustang in the drag race? Yeah a pretty chitty comparison if you ask me. In this example Im guessing your calling the stang the 25-06, but it wins in the long run too probably so bad comparison to me. The problem here is the distance. For the vast majority, a much much bigger piece of the pie 400+ will never enter the equation in a hunting situation. If you were to play by numbers alone everyone would pick the 25-06.

Love my 25-06! Great round for Texas deer. But then, I rarely shoot further than 200 yds. If you're a long range guy, 6.5.

It's hard for some to understand that many of us just aren't interested in hunting beyond 400 yards. For me, going beyond that is fine for competition purposes but I personally have no interest in that either. If I was, and had to choose between .25-06 and one of the 6.5s, I'd definitely go 6.5. I'd rather have both, though, and I have a .25-06 and a pair of 6.5 calibers. Just because I want to.

the 6.5 may fade way no telling The 6.5 bullet (not the CM specifically) has been popular in Europe for over 100 years. It has become wildly popular in the US in recent years because of the CM. It would be years before it happens but I'd bet our beloved 30 cal fades in favor before the 6.5 it’s un-Texan not to have a quarter bore. rethinking my friendship with this fellar

The .308 grows no moss in hitting damn hard out to 300 yards. And it has a far longer barrel life. 90% of rifle hunters won't fire 500 rounds in their lifetime (from the same gun). Probably not even 250.

25-06 is the Stang. That article talked about 1/4 mile. News flash, that's 440 yards. He stopped there, I stopped there. Point being it is not an apples to apples comparison. You've seen me give a solid data comparison, and it was 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08, 7mm-08 A.I. and .308. All of those are the same bolt face, and action length.
