So looks likes Kevin b is developing cartridges again (he did it at aac with the 300bo). The 8.6 creed will be the creed necked up for 338.
Some benefits are longer bearing surface for longer bullets than 338 federal, great sub sonic performance with higher grain Bullets than 300bo, higher energy inside 400yards than 308 with supers.
Not sure what I think but with some of the new subsonic bullets being developed and more energy than 300bo with subsonics it could be interesting.

Higher energy inside 400 year than a .308 with what .308 bullet at what speed?
In other words, what .308 load is he comparing it to?

I do not see it making enough speed for longer .338 bullets for them to expand at 400 yards reliably, unless long range accubonds or something like that.
300 BO as a cartridge I do not see as that much. The cartridge is a copy of the older 300 Whisper s it not?

In other words, what .308 load is he comparing it to? Not really sure. Saw something like 2500fps on a 155 grain bullet out of a 12in barrel... Going to be interesting to see when real numbers get out...

I’m really not following the craze of extremely underpowered heavyweight bullets like the 300 BO. If the creedmore matches 308 case then why build a 338 that will run heavier bullets than the federal and perform poorly? The 338 federal and the 338-06 really seem to have that market covered. Nobody is trying to run heavies in those because they lose performance quickly. I guess I don’t see the performance limits being outweighed by how quiet it is.
Just my rambling thoughts. Carry on.

Do they make heavy 338 bullets that will expand at subsonic speeds?

Just my rambling thoughts. Carry on. Think some similar thoughts were said about the 300bo. Not sure of the real differences from 338fed Do they make heavy 338 bullets that will expand at subsonic speeds? In work. Hornady is working on them with Kevin

I'm waiting for the 7mm Creedmoor so I can trade in my 7-08 for one.

Exactly. While it may be more efficient in the 6/6.5mm range the loss of capacity at .338 shooting bullets with “a longer bearing surface” than the federal would make it a real slug. The federal and 338-06 perform excellent in the 210-225g range. Try throwing a 250-275 with less case capacity in the creedmoor.

Well, the Creedmoor solved some issues that the 260 Rem had (260 is based on the 308 win). The cm moves the neck back quite a bit to fit and feed the long high bc bullets, where the 260 has trouble doing and fitting in the mag. So,a larger .338" diameter round would seat back further in a cm, to allow it to fit and feed better in a short action. The 338 federal has this issue with the 300 grain bullets. I could see it allowing better heavier bullet options. But velocity would be slow. Subsonic would be great.

Any guess on velocity Chad? Say with that 300g bullet. Not subs but maximum velocity at acceptable pressures.

Well hold on, now. Run a 178 gr up to 2700 fps and check again.
