I have three, 350 Rem Mag, 338 Federal & 9.3x62 (left to right). They don't have great BCs but they punch nice big round holes all the way through animals with minimum bloodshot meat. Anyone else have medium mores? I know they are "old fashioned" compared to the new trends.

That is a nice looking ruger
I would like to own a .338 federal if I ever go shoot moose and bear.
They just have limited use in the southern United States
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

338 Federal, 350 Remington Mag, 357 mag, 38-55 Winchester and 375 Winchester.
All work well on hogs here, the 350 has an elk and Mule deer to its credit along with whitetails and hogs. 225gr partition started at 2700fps I know can kill 3 hogs per shot if they are lined up at 140 yards.
The Federal is in a Tikka T3 Hunter and it really likes the Barnes factory loads so much I have not started loading for it. Have 6 boxes of same lot number and the way I shoot it that will last years.
favorite rifle of the mid bores though is the 35-55 Little Sharps "Lil Reliable"
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

We can trade notes sometime. I have reloaded the 338 Federal pretty frequently but not so much the 350. I did get some 200 Accubonds for the 350 and I can seat them to 2.9 COL in the Ruger. It barely works with the ogive. It will be a big jump but everything is a big jump in the 350.

338-06. Built it. Sold it. Made a deal to buy it back a year ago and yet to close the deal. I should have never sold that gun. Wearing a 2-7 VX-R it was impossible to beat inside 150 yards. Barrel was cut down to 19”, 5 shot magazine courtesy of savage 110 action. The 225gr bullet was a real show on impact at modest speeds from the short barrel. It never failed to pass through but always insisted on taking the animal with it several feet. Yes I know it was simply a matter of proper bullet construction at the correct speed causing the impressive transfer of energy and not the caliber.

I've always liked the 358 WIn and the 350 Rem Mag. Both good rounds for bigger game.

Remington used to make it once in a while on a "seasonal" basis but they don't do that anymore. I'm glad I bought 200 pieces of Remington the last time they had a "seasonal" run. You'd think there are enough old guns out there for someone like Starline to make some. Seems like they make them for more obscure cartridges.

I am a medium (and big) bore fan, heavy bullets work. I have come to appreciate the 9.3x62, I bought one to scavenge the action but the more I read about it's history and fired it the more I liked it. I took it to Africa and it preformed like the stories.

M The 9.3x62 has a long history in Africa. Once I read up on it, I really wanted one. Loaded up with 285s, it's at the upper limit of recoil for me from the bench. Fired from the shoulder, no problem.

I have a Savage 99 in .358 Winchester. It is a safe queen now, but when it wasn't it would put deer down with authority!

Only have the one due to shoulder issues - 358 WM. That rifle/cartridge combination has been instant death on whatever I shot. For fun I tried to hit at 500 yards. Scared the steel but never hit it. Had to hold it in the bottom of the scope and pray.

338, 358, 9.3x57, 9.3x62, 375 Ruger, 375 H&H. Good size bullets without too bad a punch on the wrong end.

I've got a Remington 700 that started as a 30-06, but is now a 35 Whelen. The Shilen barrel really likes the Federal Fusion 200 gr....the axis and whitetail I've shot with it, not so much. Big holes and plenty of blood to trail, but they usually go straight down....even with behind the shoulder shots.

I had a 375 winchester and occasionally kick around a whelen, 375 ruger, or a 338 mag, but haven't convinced myself i need one yet. But, i might talk myself into it one of these days.

35 Rem; a bolt, lever, and pump action. The bolt is a Rem 600. The levergun is a Marlin 336D. Special run "Guide Gun" chambered in the 35 Rem. The pump is a Savage 170. Two other leverguns, a 375 Win (Marlin) and a 38-55 Win (Rossi Rio Grande). The Marlin is in the background. It has been reconfigured as a XS Scout like the 336D above. The Rossi is in the foreground. It started life as a NIB rifle that I sent directly to JES to be rebore/rechambered to 38-55 using the 375 Win bore & groove spec. The Rossi is the nicer rifle of the two. Oh, how about a Rossi 92 chambered in 38Spl/357 Mag? I shoot a 190-grain cast bullet out of it using 38 Spl brass to make the crimp groove workout but load it to 357 Mag pressures. It thumps the heck out of hogs!

9.3x62, .35 Whelen, and .35 Rem. Those mediums are often-overlooked gems.

I got a brand new box of .35 Whelen if anybody wants them. I bought them for a tip for a kid processing deer, he got fired before I could get shells to him

I shot a 350 mag for quite some time on hogs and deer. It did a great job with both of them...but I got a bug for a 7/08 and bought another Ruger in that caliber. Now it's all 6.5's for me...but I'm still a fan of the 350.

I have a Ruger safari bolt action in 9.3x62 that is amazingly accurate. Its not extremely heavy either and is great for anything within a couple hundred yards. I have passed on shots further than that, though the rifle/caliber is capable. I enjoy using it on deer and hogs, can eat right up to the bullet hole almost.

Custom 98 Mauser in .35 Whelen, and a Winchester Big Bore 94 in .375 Winchester. There is a handful of rifles in my safe that remain unblooded, and these are two of them. Carried the Whelen on a couple of Arkansas bear hunts and never saw a thing, about eight years ago. The .375 is a fairly recent acquisition. Both are going to swat hogs before too long. The .375 is a great little walk-around rifle.

I've owned a 9.3x62 and a 375 Ruger. The 9.3x62 is a great round. I'm surprised it isn't more popular.

It would be if it had American origins, had picked up an American/English caliber designation somewhere along the way, or been championed by the American shooting press. Fine round that punches above its weight. Europeans have been using it in Africa as a “do it (almost) all” caliber since it came on the scene in the early 20th century.

Let's dub it the .366 Whelen.
