To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.www.NewHopeEquine.com - Health and Healing through Horses.

Just looked up your unit and you will be the unit just north of ours. Good luck.

Thanks. Our season starts on 10/20 and we're hunting till 10/28. Are yall the same time? We're hunting 10/20 thru 10/26. We have a cabin we're staying in near our unit. We are going up to be there on the 19th. I was looking at the location of the 416 fire. It is east of us, but just the other side of the mountain range from us. I'm wondering how much pressure it will put on our unit.

I went last year with my brother. I learned that 3rd rifle season wasn't the best.
Get in shape, you wish you had.

Get in shape, you wish you had. 3rd season can be the best, as could any season if you're in elk. Many things effect movement and they can be 1-40 miles from where they where a day prior depending on those "things". The one constant with 3rd is prior pressure, so rough terrain can hold high numbers of elk and in the oddest places.
If at first you dont succeed, then skydiving is not for you..

Last year, out of 5 hunters, 4 had shot elk. Year before that, all 5 tagged out the first day. I've been looking at the fire also. So far, we aren't affected. I've started a work out regime, walking 5 miles right now. Hope to be at 10 or 12 by the time we leave.

Third season can be great...as can 1st, 2nd, or 4th. It depends on weather, movement, pressure, available water, moon phase, and being in good physical shape. My group will be hunting 2nd season in GMU 67 on October 20. Two years ago, I hunted there the same season and harvested a big 6x6 bull, so I'm wishful for more of the same this year. Last year, we hunted 1st season and I passed on an easy shot on a decent bull on the first 5 minutes of the first morning and never saw another elk over the next 5 days.
