Ive been going to that area for almost 40 years, usually the Oklahoma panhandle had some outstanding shooting and some years not so good. I almost always use 55 grain bullets and have never had a problem with a 223.Never felt undergunned but I do take 3-4 rifles and let them cool off.
Y,all hang on I'm gonna drive closer

We went 7 years in a row, 2016 they got hit with plague, east of there. Last year, and this year, didn't go. I'm glad yall got to do some shooting, and I love hanging out in that big sky country!
And a 75 gr A-Max out of a .22-250 or .223 A.I. is where it's at. ALWAYS WINDY, and public land dogs are gonna be a stretch.

We just got back from Colorado, didn't get to shoot as much as we usually do because of all the rain and wind from Hurricane Bob or whatever it was. Only shot about 250 rounds between the two of us. Ranges where from 50 yards to 450 yards this year. The cooler weather sure was nice tho. Been doing this since 2008 and i look forward to it every year.

We've got miles and miles of prairie dogs and public land. A Wyoming hunt would combine with some great fishing. Hit up the Shirley Basin then take off for the Platte River near Casper. Long drive from Texas but worth it once you're here. Ranchers will let you on for PD shoots too if needed.

My buddy and I finished up a trip near Lubbock with Larry Pate with Texas Prairie Dog Safaris. I shot over 750 rounds from my savage mod 10 .243 and a 6.5 CM. I had been out there with him the year before and had a great hunt but it was cut short for personal reason and I rebooked for this year and have booked for next year already. A lot of shooting at long range, what I really want to do. If you like to shoot under 300 yards, don't go with Larry, but if you want a lot of dogs at 300-700 yards, and I mean a lot, then he can put you on them.
I use a 75 gr VMax in my .243 and its awesome and great in the west Texas wind. And the 95 gr VMax in the 6.5 CM performed well also. I took my DD V11 Pro and shot about 100 rounds from that as well. >223 doesn't have quiet the reach as the others but a blast to shoot. we had two kills over 750 yards. That's a long way in 10-15 mph wind, about 8-10 MOA drift.
Anyway, I cant wait to go back. I told my other buddies that I would rather go PDoggin than shoot a 150 class buck! I've been 3 years in a row and want to make it a life long trek.

That's awesome. What does a typical Pdog hunt cost?

Good job, Hunting dogs is always a hoot!
I usually go to the Pronger Brothers ranch, outside of Stratford, Tx., and shoot dogs, they normally have some that need to be removed for a nominal fee. Spring is a good time to get relatively, close in shooting. After that you have to back off the town. Heading out to west Texas next week to visit a buddy guiding some pronghorn hunts. He said bring along a Pdog rifle or three and I could probably heat up the barrels.
