I am considering doing an SBR on a DD MK18
Only concern is doing the whole process and afterwards having a lower receiver failure...
Does this happen very often...?

If you’re buying a compete DD rifle, I imagine in the absolutely rare chance of some huge failure I imagine DD would take care of you.

Also make sure you get a newer mk18. The prior ones had problems with being horribly over gassed

Go pistol, instead. I went with a 10.5" 300 blk out with blade on the back. It works freakin' great! I'll post up pics later.

I wouldn't go the SBR route. I installed the Gearhead Tailhook on a 9mm pistol.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I would definitely go SBR vs an AR pistol. The process is not nearly as lengthy or complex as people make it out to be. The real frustration is the wait time haha. It is very unlikely that you will have a lower receiver failure. I wouldn’t worry about that. That’s like not going to the beach because a shark might bite you .

Form 1 Cost ($200) 2. Engraving fee (say $50 bucks). 3. Trust (optional)...~ $200 4. Need permission slip to take it out of the state. Form 5320.20 5. Receiver is worthless once engraved. 6. Wait time is 6-7 months. Most build an AR pistol while waiting.

Daniel Defense is a solid product so I would have confidence doing it either way.

You can use that lower with any upper you own, regardless of barrel length. 3. You don't need to worry about the ATF or the current Executive administration declaring your brace "illegal" 4. While not technically an advantage as you do need to fill out a Form 20 to take an SBR across state lines, you can fill out multiple forms (for multiple states) and make them good for an entire year.

...and that registered lower receiver is only subject to NFA rules when it is in an NFA configuration. A 16" upper makes it a rifle, no NFA rules apply. Remove the stock, add a brace, it is now a pistol, no NFA rules apply. SB Tactical charges more for one of their "braces" than the tax stamp costs.

A pistol blade is $39! I don't mind doing a tax stamp and such, but when you can go pistol for no additional cost, it's a no brainer for me. And the blade on mine works fine either way.

You don't need to worry about the ATF or the current Executive administration declaring your brace "illegal" If they do, then get an SBR4. While not technically an advantage as you do need to fill out a Form 20 to take an SBR across state lines, you can fill out multiple forms (for multiple states) and make them good for an entire year. Still a pain in the butt (I've done it several times), and not needed for a pistol. As an owner of quite a few SBR's and an AR pistol I can definitively say the ONLY reason to go SBR is if you want a particular butt-stock. I doubt I will ever get another one now that the pistol option is so much easier.

I love my SBR, but man was it nice to buy one of the folding braces for my scorpion and just install it and be done with all the hoopla that goes along with the SBR purchase I waited 1 year and 4 months for my SBR stamp. Not a fun wait.
