Haven't been out in a couple of weeks due to other obligations, so Saturday night I was itching to get out in the blind- especially since the weather was so nice. About 9 pm I turned on the Photon XT and scanned the south end of the field, and aside from the normal slew of coons, didn't see anything else. Normally I don't even check the other end of the field- the North feeder is around 175 yards away. When I checked it, I thought our mini donkey was over there sucking up the corn. I turned on the extra IR illuminator and it was a big hog. I had to watch him about 10 minutes, as he was either in front of, or behind the feeder legs. When he finally presented broadside, I shot and he snow-plowed towards the woods and out of sight. I stayed in the blind another couple of hours watching the coons and then at 11, another boar showed up at the south end of the field at the hog feeder. He was about 110 yards away, so I shot him and he went straight down. I went down and dragged him the 50 yards to the buzzard-feeding spot, then took the 4-wheeler down and looked for the first hog. I checked as far as I could on the 4-wheeler, then got off and looked on foot for a while then called it. Next morning I was working on feeders and feeding the cows and went back to look again. He had immediately turned after entering the woods and was less than 50 yards from where I shot him. Both hogs were shot using Hornady Custom 6.5 Grendel 123 Grain SST. The first one was heart shot, the second was shot where I have been shooting most all of them lately- between the shoulder and head. I've yet to have one run when they get hit there. First hog- found next morning. Second hog- DRT.

Kudos.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf
