I wouldn't say they are crap, but ATN doesn't have a stellar reputation for customer support.

A friend and I must have gotten lucky, no problems with either of ours. Firmware updates have worked fine also....Absolutely have to have a rechargeable battery pack though, any cell phone type battery extender works.

I too have had no issue with mine but it has limitations for sure. The X sight was a good taste tester but the thermal is going to be on the way soon I hope.

I like mine. Use it on a 300 b/o for deer, hog, and varmint hunting. The only gripe i have about it is the limited FOV that you have while looking down range. I have not purchased rechargeable batteries for as stated above. I use energizer Lithium and have been happy but always keep it powered down till I see movement.
