I have killed "several" Rio's in my almost two decades of chasing yard birds but ALL have been Rio's and I have never ventured across the borders of our great state....until this past weekend. Got an invite to hunt a friends property in far Eastern KS (Linn County) for Eastern birds. I discovered that a turkey is a turkey and a field bird in KS falls for the same tactics as field bird in TX. Also discovered that my favorite calls (David Halloran Twisted Sister pot & Purple Heart/Cedar box, and a Quaker Boy Pro triple mouth call with a V cut on the left) speak Eastern as well as they speak Rio laugh Tagged out in KS baby!

David makes a fine pot call. His box calls are superior too.

What are friends for? smirk

I'm just glad that you and the Mrs. survived the experience....or at least seem to have. grin

Hey BWho, at lunch on Saturday we ran into a group of guys from Mississippi that were hunting several miles from us. I asked them if they knew you and they said no. What's up with that??? I thought you were the most famous turkey slayer to ever come from MS confused2 JKBTW.

I did ask them how they had done that morning and they said the birds had kicked their butts badly so I immediately knew that they wouldn't have known you anyway cause you wouldn't put up with that or hang with anybody who did smile

Heck calling a bird up for you is easy. All I got to do is get one within 100 yards and you'll reach out there with some of those nuclear TSS that you reload and BOOM! Game over. I wish I could let you call me a bird up this weekend but I'll be in Odessa tending to some bidness. frown

rofl rofl You'd like my 2 for 1 shot this year with the 20ga. The 'ol 28ga will reach out there and touch 'em. Hopefully I can knock out a slam with the 28ga next season. Been too busy this one!

One of the cool things about Spring bird hunting in KS is you can also casually look for sheds as you trudge along the ranch roads and hard wood bottoms looking for a red headed playa. Figured you guys would probably be impressed with this one as I know I was! This is the right side to probably a 150" 8 point. It was the biggest shed I've ever seen found. I wish I had found it but I didn't. Assuming he was 17" inside you are right at 150. Regardless...I want to see this bad boy at 20 steps thru the peep of a full drawn Mathews grin
