Hey all, Looking to pick up one of these two scopes...and was curious if the VX-5 is worth about $250 bucks over the VXR?
This will scope will going on a varmint, hog, deer, and paper punching 22-250.
VXR - 4-12x50 CDS Firedot - Duplex (can get for around $570) VX-5 3-15x44 CDS Firedot - Duplex (can get for around $815)

They say the VX-5HD is the same glass as the VX-6HD. If this true it’s well worth the money. I have had many VX-Rs and really liked them but the 6HD glass blows it away.

The extra money is worth it to me, and I have no complaint with my VX-R.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I know it’s not your question but I would say the 6 HD is not worth almost double the 5HD. I did buy the 6 but only because the only 5s they had in stock had the giant objective and I was in a buy today kind of mood. That’s one of my faults driving to SWFA where I can put my hands on all the toys.

I have all 3...2 VX-R's, VX-5HD, and two VX-6HD's.
I would definitely get the VX-5HD with illuminated reticle over the VX-R.
The only difference between the 5HD and 6HD are some of the reticle options, the auto leveling feature, the magnification, zero lock turrets, the alumina scope covers (worth every penny), and the throw lever. For me, it was worth the extra money, but for most it probably isn't.

I've always assumed the VX-Rs had the same glass the VX-2s have---which ain't bad, but definitely lower tier.
