I grabbed Pig_Popper (Ben) to provide some of the heavy lifting after I got a call from my landowner down in central Texas. He usually calls me in late May or early June to deal with hogs and then has me stop before deer season. He had one field planted that was being damaged, looked to be about to plant the next one, and had planted hundreds of trees, of which 60 had been torn from the ground or rooted from the ground. So we arrived early, did a foot tour of the high traffic areas of concern and started to hunt. The bright moon was not our friend and we shot from distance, but it all worked out quite well.

DNS, thanks for the invite!
Luckily we were able to get on property with plenty of daylight left so that we could take a look around, identify signs of hogs and get some insight from from the landowner.
On our initial walkabout we were in the thick of it (creek bottom and dense woods) when after some time we came to an opening where we found the hog skulls. I recall muttering, this is a good sign ...
I remember putting some lead into a couple of hogs that ran into those woods last year , seems they are drawn to that area to go for a final rest.
Heard lots of squealing and grunting as we patrolled the property , the landowner is certainly making the right decision in calling you in early this year.
On the Quality Assurance shots, you sorta’ coined the phrase awhile back and I generally avoid putting more bullets into the hogs because I like to study the wound tract of the original shot, when I can ... I’ve lost a few hogs this way and that’s disappointing.
On the lone boar I was feeling a bit over zealous when I announced “No Quality Assuarance Necessary” - Boy did I eat those words later... I watched this hog for a few minutes after the shot, best I can surmise is I put him to sleep temporarily and when he awoke he was able to roll down into a depression about 5 feet away. The little 120gr Sierra Pro Hunter handload did it’s job in limiting his mobility.
On the quad boars, you spotted them while I was 450 yards away getting stuff out of the truck, I had to hustle back quickly and you laid out a fine plan in making the stalk given the conditions (moon/winds/cover). That would end up being probably another 1000 yard stroll all-in-all.
Thanks to my shooting tripod and hog saddle I was able to hold still enough to administer some shots on two of the boars while still catching my breath.
Looks like 1 of the 4 boars absorbed 1 Pro Hunter and 3 123gr SSTs , nearly 500 grains of bullet to anchor him - quite a tough animal!
Thanks again for the invite and the video you produced is most excellent - Carpe Sus!!!
This space is For Sale - inquire within ...

You are quite welcome! As for eating your words, had I not forgotten to turn off the recorder, there would have been no evidence, LOL. It was pretty funny. We have all had hogs get up on us at some point.

Very good, nice video. You call it quality assurance, I call it paying the insurance. But whichever way, it is best to be pro-active. Like I tell my friend, they make more bullets every day, don't be stingy.

LOL, it is quality assurance because I am doing it for the landowners, supposedly, making sure dead hogs stay dead. Sometimes I will do it administratively on larger hogs, simply as a matter of safety given that I usually hunt alone. I have had more than one dead hog come alive on me and that is a surprise you won't want.

We are speaking the same language, for sure.
It always amazes me how many folks I see with a bolt gun shoot something and then sit there watching it with a fired case in the chamber. I guess it is just human nature to want to see what you just did. But just like I am teaching my 10 YO daughter. Run the bolt and get another round in the chamber in case you need it, THEN you can decide if you need to shoot again.
