Do you guys use to hunt Turkeys?
Shotgun? Gauge?
Rifle? Caliber?
Bow? Type?
How far are you willing to take a shot with the weapon of your choice?
Thanks,
Mel

I keep all my shots fairly close. The fun of turkey hunting for me is calling that wiley gobbler in close. If I fail, he walks to hunt another day.

I should have answered my own question... Do you guys use to hunt Turkeys?
Shotgun? Gauge?
Rifle: CZ .17 I am also taking my .223 bolt.
Bow? Type? I haven't yet but I am considering it later in the season.
How far are you willing to take a shot with the weapon of your choice? I prefer getting them in close, 30-40 yards but I did take one last year at 130 yards.
Thanks,
Mel

I just use a 12 gauge shotgun. I went to an show a while back and invested in a specialty turkey choke and have been testing different loads in it. I have the Winchester Longbeard #5s pattering really good at 175 feet. I bet it will go a little further but I haven't tried yet.

Check your county regs, I can only use a shotgun in my county.

.410 single barrel. With my handload it'll kill past forty yards. I prefer to have them at about 35 yards.

Picked up a Mossberg 835 ultimag 3.5” 12ga a few weeks ago. Bought some Remington 3.5” 2oz number 5’s. Ordered a Patternmaster Anaconda Striker choke. Haven’t shot it yet. Will this coming weekend.
Also have a 870 youth 20ga with a Primos Tite Wad. It shoots a 3” Federal shell with #5’s really good to about 45 yards.
I’m seriously thinking about trying my little Marlin bolt action .22 Mag with the Hornady V max load or my newest AR in 22 Nosler if I need to reach out farther than a scattergun will allow.

Depends on the terrain and situation. Years back turkey hunting Kansas from my ground blind, toms would not come close all weekend. Finally I tell my buddy, lets pick up the blind and walk towards them with it. He looks at me like I am nuts, so after some convincing we stand up inside and carry it to like 30 yds away and bag our birds. Pretty comical but it worked!

If you use a .22, where is your kill shot?

If you use a .22, where is your kill shot? I use a .17 and the kill shot is the base of the neck. Got one this past Sat that way.

Monday I was in a tripod waiting for hogs and a turkey walked right under me. 300 RCM with Barnes 150TTSX has plenty of knock down at 25 feet. Hit far enough forward meat loss was minimal. I had sat in the same tripod for days with a shotgun and no turkey, bring rifle and they show. Having both a rifle and shotgun in elevated stand is a pain.

I haven't shotgunned a turkey in years, but when I did it was a Berretta AL 390 with 3" and no. 5 shot. I mostly bowhunt them now, and my latest is an Elite Synergy with either a Rocket Hammerhead or a Grim Reaper. Shotgun up to 50 yd. Bow out to 25 yd. but if they get closer that's fine with me.

I also use a Savage 24 for turkey and coyote hunting. Winchester white box 45 grain for the 223 and 3 inch #6 for the shotgun. Great combination for my use in Navarro and Hamilton counties.

I could of used a spear for this turkey or hogs on my location 2 days ago. The full moon had animals movin at high noon. Looked up and said that aint that buzzard that's been swoopin down at the water puddle. Blackberry snacks!! was their fancy.
Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.
