Anyone know of a good gunsmith near Laneville, Tx that wont take me to the cleaners and will stand behind his work? I got a savage 110 that I would like to have blued. Any help would be great.

Budman, There is a man in Mt. Pleasant, Titus Co. that does blueing. I do not know anything about the quality but I was in his shop about a week ago. His name is Ken Amerson 903-572-7586.

If you want a good anticorrosive finish on your rifle look in to parkerizing it. You can DIY at home for around $50...and IMHO it looks pretty sweet.

It's sometimes hard to stand behind your work when it come to rebluing guns. It also has to do with how well the gun owner takes care of his own guns. I've reblued guns of my own using my hot bluing tanks just like the manufacturer uses. I take good care of my guns and never had any issues with surface rust after doing so. I had 1 person bring me his Rem 1100 back to me claiming it was my poor work that caused the gun to rust. After further investigation I found sand/dirt on the inside and a water mark on the wood stock under the recoil pad. The owner admitted it to me after I showed him what I found and said that his son dropped in the coastal marsh while duck hunting. Any moisture left on a gun will cause it to rust especially if left in a gun case. I tell people when they want a gun reblued that I will not stand behind it because of the reason above. If you really worried about rust have it parkerized.
I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM!

This is so true... And people need to realize that rebluing or Parkerizing is a controlled rust.
ATF issued a ruling on 1/12/09 that states:
"Any person who is engaged in the business of camouflaging or engraving firearms as described in this ruling must be licensed as a dealer, which includes a gunsmith, under the Gun Control Act."
