Who uses rice bran? I can get 50 lbs of stabilized for $36 a bag or Non Stabilized for $8. What is your experience with either. I like the $8 a bag, but apparently it doesnt last as long? If it goes rancid quickly, then how do feed stores keep it in storage?

I have used the 8 buck stuff (did not know about the high dollar stuff) and it has stayed good for 8 months. I use it in my hog bait, so I do not imagine it matters if it stays "good" or not. Anyway , works great as a base for hog bait.

OK this is going to waaay more info than you probably want but here you go. It actually does contain high levels of Fiber and mid-level amounts of protien. Rice bran is a by-product of the rice milling process (the conversion of brown rice to white rice), and it contains various antioxidants that impart beneficial effects on human health. It is well known that a major rice bran fraction contains 12%-13% oil and highly unsaponifiable components (4.3%). This fraction contains tocotrienol, gamma-oryzanol, and beta-sitosterol; all these constituents may contribute to the lowering of the plasma levels of the various parameters of the lipid profile. Rice bran also contains a high level of dietary fibers (beta-glucan, pectin, and gum). In addition, it also contains 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid (ferulic acid), which is also a component of the structure of non-lignified cell walls. The high oil content of bran makes it subject to rancidification, one of the reasons that is often separated from the grain before storage or further processing. The bran itself can be heat-treated(stablized) to increase its shelf life. So in conclusion feed the $8 stuff...the animals won't care if it is rancid.

I've used it and found it to work well with a lil C'mere deer on top at first to help em find it, then I Switched to using sweet feed and WOW was I hooked, Sweet feet is the best attractant I've used to date, its about 8 bucks a sack maybe slightly more, and you can get it with 12% protein. But the Rice bran is good too

Never tried it here in TX but when i lived in lousy-anna for a year the deer loved it! They would clean up 50lbs in 2 days flat.

from what I have read and heard... most just pour it on the ground. Some mix it in with protein in free choice feeders too. If I find that the deer like it I may do that also.

at first we poured it on the ground, then we found a small piece of plywood and piled it up, the rice bran wasn't hit near as fast as the sweet feed....get both and do a side by side and show us pics.... we did our testing in Menard County, we have a lot of deer so it may be different where populations are different

You know the stuff called Buck Grub? It is basically just rice bran.
Rice bran (and Buck Grub) do work by the way.

Depends on what you are using it for. If you just want to attract deer that will probably work and you will get your money's worth. If you are trying for better conditioned deer and bigger antler's 12% is on the low low end. Deer can survive on 7-8% protein, but in order to make a difference in the antler department you should be at 16-20% protein with the right ratios of calcium and phosphrous and other vitamins and minerals.
Absolutely!!

Yes, I agree Kyotee Rice Bran and Sweet Feed are not optimal protein feed....that said I think the deer like the sweet feed better than the protein feed...but that doesn't matter if you goal is to grow antlers

I got a pile of rice bran and a pile of sweet feed next to each other under my protein feeder. mixed in some protein with both to make sure that they get their pellets. got a camera on it so we shall see in two weeks how it works.
