I just bought a browning X-bolt in 25-06. It will be used mainly for whitetail hunting. My question is this. What grain bullets do most of you use that hunt with this caliber? I picked up some 100 and some 120 grain. I realize that I will have to play around with different loads, but I was just curious as to what most of you shoot in your 25-06. Thanks!

I use Hornady 117 grain SST; it is an awesome bullet for that caliber!

Those hornady's are awesome! one's that i use are barnes 100 grain trophy bonds. those have gone through both shoulders on deer and exited with no problem and very severe tissue damage! they drop! my cousin swears by sierra 117 grain soft point boat-tail gamekings. those would be my 2nd choice! it was hard choosing from those and the barnes bullets. he has made several shots out to 400 yrds which i would not be too comfortable with, on several deer. one was even a longer shot! those sierras were awesome. all those deer did not even go 20 yards! awesome penetration at those yardages. the 25-06 is the ultimate whitetail caliber. i shoot my 22-250 first by preference but i also use my 25-06 regularly. by the way all 25-06's are very accurate, most shoot any bullets or loads accurately.

Either will work fine on TX whitetails. I prefer the 120s...a little less velocity, a little less meat distruction, a little better penetration, just i case you need it!
But I'd probably shoot em both and pick the one your rifle likes best.
If you handload, there are many more good options!
PS: Bet you'll love your 25/06!

Great caliber for Texas. I don't think you could go wrong with any weight, as long as you stick with a good bonded bullet. So leave it to you rifle to make the choice for you. Since I prefer speed, I personally would go with a 100 or 115 grain partition, over the 120. I am currently shooting the 100 grain Spire Points from my 257 Weatherby and have never had any problems out of them performance wise. Yet, I am still looking to switch to the 115 grain Partition this year. Better bullet and the little bit of extra weight really does not affect the speed like the jump to a 120 will. As mentioned above, the 110 grain Accubond would probably be a good choice. And if you get the opportunity, definitely try the Federal Fusions - cheap and extrememly accurate in MOST rifles.

Huge fan of the 100 grain TSX's..... Its a one stop bullet from varmits, to whitetail, to pigs, to even elk.
This year took 2 deer with the 100grains tsx's. Two does, one in TX which was a 300 yard+ shot that exited though both shoulders. 20 yard reterive. The other was a 130lb Okla. doe my cuz took a frontal shot a little under two hundrad yards which existed the rear area of the pooper... Huge hole.. she dropped in tracks.
Also got a 200 lb hog that both shoulders where taken out of and the bullet exited the hog, he made it 5 yards. That was at 125 yards.
Just got two boxes of 110 Acubonds while I'm having 5 boxes of tsx's loaded. every thing i have read is been excellent also on them.
Also got a doe and buck this year with the 85 grain TSX in 243 both exited.
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR

Anything 100 grains or heavier that is accurate in your rifle should be what you are looking for. Accuracy kills!

Thanks for all the posts! My X-bolt ended up liking Hornady 117 grain BTSP's big time! I tried remington, winchester, and hornady ammo. The other two did'nt come close to grouping as well as the Hornady!
Again, thanks to all!
