This is a factory 7 mm rem mag barrel. Wall thickness is .174 and .198. Can you guess who made it. I thought I would shorten it to play around with in the off season. I don't think its worth it now. It was a take off barrel i had sitting around, so no big loss.

I hope for the sake of JG's head that it isn't a Tikka.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

My guess would be Remington as everyone here hates Remington lol. First name that popped in my head. In all honesty, their QC is terrible and I do think they're the most likely. Savage and Tikka both seem unlikely. Even though savages can have feeding/ejection problems, I think they build a pretty good barrel.

I’d say Remington since they are the most common take off barrel around.

I never shot it. I pulled the barrel and its been a 257 wby for 3 or 4 years now. I bought it used. I bet they had trouble with it as it warmed after the first shot.

Edit... Looks like I was slow at my posting. Sorry.
Did you or anyone else ever shoot with that barrel?
If so... How did it group? Was there any attempt at a load development?
.

This is interesting. I had a savage model 10 about 3 years ago that when after boresighted, the POI was about 5’ (feet) to the right at 100y. The full range of windage adjustment on the scope was just enough to get it close to zeroed. After verifying all the usual suspects, I called savage.
Savage told me to send it in, and they sent me a new rifle. Seems the rifles would be about the same age, wonder if it could have been the same problem?

I remember reading an article about rifle bores not being perfectly straight due to slight bends in the bit. It was talking about making sure the chamber was concentric with that end of the bore and the same with the crown. I wish I could find it.

Bore was straight just not center d.
