I only have a couple of stock Weatherby Vanguards, a lever gun, and a .22. None of these have any attachments on their barrels.
Now this much I know: muzzle-breaks amplify noise while reducing recoil and muzzle rise and suppressors reduce noise, significantly more so when used in conjunction with "subsonic" ammunition.
Here are the dumb questions: What exactly is a "compensator" if such a thing exists? Do flash hiders really hide muzzle flash? If not, what are they? Can/Do suppressors decrease velocity of regular supersonic ammo? What about muzzle-breaks? Can/Do suppressors have a muzzle-break effect (decreased muzzle rise and/or recoil) when used with either sub- or supersonic ammunition?

Suppressors will make your velocity faster no slower. Yes they decrease recoil/rise with either ammo.

Here are the dumb questions: What exactly is a "compensator" if such a thing exists? Basically a muzzle break, most often seen on .22s Do flash hiders really hide muzzle flash? Yes If not, what are they? Can/Do suppressors decrease velocity of regular supersonic ammo? They increase it, acting as a longer barrel. What about muzzle-breaks? Doubtful, but not 100% sure Can/Do suppressors have a muzzle-break effect (decreased muzzle rise and/or recoil) when used with either sub- or supersonic ammunition? Yes Answered each question in your post.

I believe compensators were specifically meant to reduce or eliminate muzzle rise, whereas a brake is meant to reduce recoil in general. There may be some overlap in performance or purpose, but I think there is a difference.

Thanks!
There is no $200 stamp/tax for muzzle breaks, correct?

There is no $200 stamp/tax for muzzle breaks, correct? You may put any muzzle device on without a tax stamp as long as it does not create a decibel reduction. Only suppressors do that. You are good to go on muzzle brakes, flash hiders, compensators, fake suppressors, and just about anything else you want to mount to a barrel.

Suppressors works by containing the muzzle blast, they don't slow down the bullet. Two different things cause noise when a gun is fired, muzzle blast and then the sonic boom behind the bullet. A suppressor only remedies the muzzle blast, you still hear the sonic crack from the bullet going down range. Subsonic loads wont have the sonic crack, that's why they are quieter, with or without a suppressor.
