I had an unusual event cause me to miss a coyote. I missed the coyote because I had a minor baffle strike (several, actually) as my suppressor launched from my rifle when I fired. There was a much louder than normal report, sparks/flame/flash (bright!), and a strong and prolonged recoil. I was hit in the face by a bunch of debris. I thought my gun had exploded, but when I turned on my light, the gun was still there, but the suppressor wasn't. I found it about 35 yards down range. Consulted Silencerco. They said I probably had the locking mechanism partially engaged when I put the can on the rifle and that kept it from seating properly and so the lock did not engage fully when I tightened it. The baffles are fine, but the mount will be replaced. Silencerco said they would send me a new one. Here is the event...

Had the same thing happen with my specwar. The locking mechanism wasn’t seating properly or tight enough. Watched my can go flying down range one day. They fixed it for free.

rexmitchell, yeah, Silencerco is sending a new mount. Life is good. In the mean time, I will be using a spare.

Still waiting on the new ASR mount from Silencerco. In the mean time, put in the threaded mount and let a buddy use the suppressor on our hunt over the weekend and it worked just fine. The suppressor/baffles seem in fine shape.

Well, what I like about the Silencercos is that you have the option of doing either one and on some rifles I use the QD mount and on some I use the direct thread mount. Each way has advantages and disadvantages.

I've heard of several episodes where the QD mount was in use when the suppressor ejected. Whether user error or not, it reinforces my decision to only use threaded.

Google silencerco suppressor baffle strokes or flies downrange, too many stories. Dunno why people buy them, ruins a hunt.

Lightweight, multiple mounting options, and the Omega has some of the best noise suppression in the business. Silencerco also stands behind their gear 100%.

I had the exact same scenario play out with an Silencerco Omega. I believe I didn't have the QD tightened all the way down. I picked up my suppressor, put it back on and it shot like normal. Sent it in to be sure, Silencerco ran a test on it and sent it back. I've since put hundreds of rounds through it with no problems.

Thanks. It is all good. The new mount is in and the suppressor ready to be changed back from direct thread to QD.
