.257" and .277" anything. I used to be highly interested in both, but that’s quickly fading, and for the same reasons as you, I suspect. Out of curiosity, why are you guys anti .277? We care about BC. Both those two are poor in that department. Yep, my .277 (6.8) works great on hogs as far as I have opportunity to get em, bout 160 yards. Can't say as I've ever looked at the BC of the 120SST. It kills hogs and that's the job of that rifle. As to the OP's question, 300BO, just don't like the hype behind it.

7mm-08. We got the 7x57, just don't get the point. Yea it will fit in a short action, blah blah blah.
Not a fan of quarter bores either, which is funny because I may be about to spend some good money on a 25-06.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

Plenty of guys here have touted the .270 Win and the 6.8 SPC plenty of times. And I have no reason to argue with anyone about them. As far as that gas gun round, I'd build a 6.5 Grendel just to be hard headed about it.

25-06, 6.5 creed, 338 win mag. Why?? Cause I already have 270 win, 260 rem and 35 Whelen, so I just don't need them.

Dang, seriously. Those are some of the best 3 rounds available. Blackout sucks; 10mm is decent, but no 357 or 44 mag; 6.5... meh.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Out of curiosity, why are you guys anti .277? somethings just work too well and people can't stand it. I can't tell you what they do on steel at long range but I can tell you what they do on hide, meat and bone. the three I never got on board with are the .308, the .30-06 and the 7mm Remington mag. the first two are about as exciting as a extended cab long bed 3/4 ton gas truck and the 7mm just has too much recoil and muzzle blast in a standard weight gun. the first two ( in my opinion ) are not as good on deer sized game compared to a .270 (not on numbers but recoil, trajectory, etc...I know they will handily dispatch deer) and if your gonna get beat by a 7mm mag then might as well get beat by a .300 win mag and have more power
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

This may as far as ballistics go make 0 sense.
I have lost all faith in the .270. I'm snake bit by it.
I hunted w a Winchester M70 in 30-06 for 5 years so. It was 100 percent boom-dead. I'd guess 4-5 Whitetails
So I Sell it and go w the .270 several years ago. Nothing falls, I mean nothing. 4 animals have ran 100 plus
I bought an AR-10 last month and I am gonna give it a go next year.
But to me, the 30-06 is my most trusted round. Now, I've never shot at more than 200 yards so take that for what it's worth
Like I said, I'm snake bit by the .270. It's most likely me but that's my round to hate

50 BMG. The rifles are like handling a railroad tie and the muzzle blast sends out a shock wave that gives me a headache.
25-06 because I spent a weekend chasing wounded animals of a friend using one. He brought a 308 the next year.

I was gonna add that Chad but i was getting a little long so I didn't. The first 3, two WT's and one hog was Winchester Silver Tips 130 grain ballistic tips The last was 130 Hornady ballistic tip I swore off BT's. I just witness first hand what they do. You won't find them on me anymore. These I would consider good shots, no gut shots. I go center/higher shoulder Like I said, the .270 has me snake bit. My mind says it good to go but my gut says nope.

My first deer rifle was a 270 and it kill em dead but def isn’t made for LR shooting. It’s never let me down so I ain’t gonna give up on it anytime soon.
I don’t really have a caliber I don’t like but I haven’t used a ton of them either. I find what I like and stick with it.

Ok, I'm laughing as I type this, so bear with me. One, Hornady doesn't make a ballistic tip. Nosler Makes a Ballistic Tip. Hornady has a red polymer tip on a lot of their bullets, like the SST, Interbond, A-max, ELD, etc. So, I have no idea what bullet you shot out of the Horandy. The 130 grain BST bullets are good bullets (other than being coated). So, if you are running an SST or the 130 BST, you are using good bullets. So, this tells me shot placement. The 270 at 3000+ fps is Thor's hammer on deer and often anchors them very quickly. My first rifle was in 270, and I have killed MANY animals with that rifle. I used 130 SST and 130 SP Hornady bullets. Shot placement wise, if I aim high, I'm aiming forward of shoulder. If you shoot a pig behind the shoulder, they can run forever. I have not shot a pig behind the shoulder in years. I aim ear hole or high neck. This will anchor a pig where it stands every time, including with my lowly, underpowdered, horses patoot of a round, 300 blk out. Deer I aim for the heart, which is low and slightly forward in the shoulder. They go down quick. If a deer/pig runs off, then you have not hit enough substance for a quicker kill. A lung shot will often allow them to run longer. It all boils down to shot placement. The bullets you describe work very well, if they go in the right place. All the deer I have seen killed that ran a long way had shots that were marginal, including several hunters on my deer lease.

.223. I gave it a bunch of chances and have never learned to like it.

I've had the really good luck with the Nosler Ballistic Tips.
I haven't tried Hornady Ballistic Tips, or Sierra Ballistic Tips although Fireman says the 155 Sierra Ballistic Tips are pretty good on hogs.
