Hip arthritis got to the point I couldn't lift my leg to get in my truck without using my hands to lift my legs. I was loading up on doctor prescribed pain killers to get thru my idaho hunt in November. Went to the doctor and took x rays to confirm it was arthritis. He told me to go see an orthopedic surgeon.
Did my own research and went back to working out with free weights from machines I had been doing. Just got back from walking 6 miles a day for 2 weeks in the Sandhills and no problems what so ever. Using zero pain pills. Thought I would give someone else some hope

Glad for you. Vast majority of healthcare industry isn't focused on prevention. Self discipline goes a long way, as GR said keep it up.

Good deal! A hunting buddy has hip issues and swears by taking a couple of Tumeric pills each day. Something else that might augment / help if you arent already.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

This is one of my areas of practice...usually we find what's causing the inflammation and eliminate that. Usually diet issue. A ltittle physical therapy later guys are back to activity...sad thing about arthritis is it's a nail in a coffin for most men. Once you quit the activity your body goes deteriates.
I like to tell my wife the quail are saving my life:)

I have had four hip surgeries. Had total Left Hip done in 1991 (age 21) due to Anklyosing Spondilitis. Had Total Right Hip done in 1993 (age 23). In 2010 my left hip was shot and I went in for a Left Hip Revision (Age 40). It went bad and within a month I had broken revision. So back in hospital I went for a Total Left Hip a month later, all parts pulled out and new put in. Problem was that the left Perneal Nerve (spelling off) was damaged and now I have a left drop foot with lots of pain. I walk with a cane and try to stay as active as I can, this new medicine Cosentyx has been helpful. Lots of pain and only combative option is medication. I have taken myself down to bare minimum on meds, and use no heavy pain killers. I still hunt, just use a lot of sitting in blinds or the handicapped/mobility impaired options that some states provide. On the plus side, under New Mexico's Mobility Impaired program, there is a mobility impaired only drawing so it is probably only way I will get drawn to hunt Gila Forest.

Arthritis sucks. I had both hips replaced 10 years ago at age 46. They have held up great. I hunt in Africa and walk 5-10 miles per day, quail hunt as often as I can and walk all day, and try to stay active. The more active I am the better my body feels.

I can relate to the pain, after two back surgeries, now 6 vertebrae fused

Be sure that you get good medical advice, I had years of knee and back pain, I was finally diagnosed with a slightly tilted pelvis. The second physical therapist showed me how to self correct, now I make sure every thing is aligned, do a correction ten exercise, all largely without pain. When it flairs up, 600 mg of ibuprofen every 6 hrs, calms it down in less than a day.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
