Gun accidents are a reality and can happen,although I've acquired the right tools to help with a gunshot wound and have them at the ready ,in my trucks, in my gun bag ,in my hunting bag,knowledge to use them properly was lacking ,Texas Law Shield came up with this online course and bought the knowledge to me so I will be more confident if I am ever put in the position to treat a gunshot wound ,I believe with this course I was givin the knowledge which could save a life of my loved one,somebody hunting with me or myself.
Took about hour and half online watching videos goes over why and how when and what tools to have on you
I'm having my family also watch the videos (although that like herding cats I'm going to get it done)
I believe during night hunting getting in and out of vehicles, off road vehicles, in and out of stands stalking multiple shooters ,There is higher probabilities of gun accidents,ambulances or helicopters are not going to get to where we are hunting in time to help somebody with a gunshot wound but if we can triage the wound and buy time to get the person transported ,the small price to pay for a course and acquiring the right tools to do so is insignificant and can save someone's life

Israel bandage
Chest seal /vents
Gauze
Not pictured here is compressed gauze to pack wounds with

Good stuff to know, somebody leans a shot gun on truck it
Falls and catches a guy in the leg, being ready certainly would take
Some of the panic out of scenario

I've seen Rambo. All you have to do is pour gunpowder in the would and light it. That will cauterize the wound and you will be good to go!

Seriously, this is a good idea to be prepared!

While pheasant hunting in Colorado I was trying to grab a wounded bird and so was my black lab. I had to set my shotgun down and use both hands, my lab was excited trying to help me, he managed to step on the safety and the trigger and the gun went off right next to my head. I checked him and myself for missing limbs and we were ok but this kind of thing can happen in the field.

Good thinking and planning Lance. Those things can happen so easy, it's hard to imagine all the scenarios that you could be faced with.
One time I was in the back room of a friends gun shop in California when I customer brought in a boxed 7mag rifle to be sent back for warranty work. They propped it up against a bench and walked away. The box slid over and hit the floor, where the rifle in it blew out the end of the box and luckily didn't hit anyone.
I don't ever want to be close to something like that again.

I seen a medic treat an afghan with a gunshot wound once. Bullet went in the abdomen and didn't exit. Guy was a civilian so medic put a bandage on it and told the other afghan to take him to a hospital. The guy was in and out of consciousness and im pretty sure he died either from the wound or infection in that chithole. Anyways there was almost no blood prob a lot on the inside but he wasn't bleeding.

In the Army we all went through CLS Combat Lifesaver Coarse. Bleeding and breathing and the 2 things that will kill quickest. Got to stop the bleeding with tourniquet, pressure bandage, manual pressure. On sucking chest wound many times air goes in and escapes into the chest cavity putting pressure on the lungs and keeping them from expanding "pneumothorax". Anyways in that case you seal the wounds and you need to do a needle chest decompression. Basically sticking a needle in the chest above the 3rd rib from the collar bone (I think) and the air will escape allowing the person to breathe better. If you can treat those two wounds there is a good chance you will get the injured person to a doctor before they die and then their chances of surviving go way up.

There are lots of unique ways to stop bleeding and some places are very hard to stop the bleeding. Groins and armpits can be tough, had a buddy get shot in the armpit and bleed out in Afghanistan. You can wad up gauze about the size of a baseball and put it in the armpit and then bring the arm down creating pressure on the wound.

I just took a gunshot course as a re fresher and as Sapper pointed out if you can stop bleeding and keep them breathing they have a good chance of making it.

Having a basic understanding of what to do and basictools can save a life.

Chest needle on top of third rib and once in place keep on low side of the body. Never the bottom of a rib the nerves and vessels are on the bottom.

My cousin was a combat lifesaver in Iraq and said that tampons can work well on bullet wounds. Keeping the wounded man calm is the most important thing though.

Important as hypothermia can happen at any temperature due to blood loss important to counteract it in a gunshot scenario

Laugh if you want....but I was taught that tampons were good for bullet wounds.

there are much more effective things. Any gunshot wound on an extremity should get a tourniquet if bleeding. After that cover the wound to prevent infection. If no tourniquet then apply pressure just sticking a ramp in in the hole isn’t gonna do much. Best thing is to use combat gauze and stuff it in the wound until you can’t get anymore in there then ball the leftover up and put a pressure bandage over the hole.
