Have a few perfect does roaming around the property. Does anyone know if these can they be taken during late youth season in Red River county? He is itching to shoot something and wanted to take one this weekend. I thumbed my outdoor annual and I can't seem to figure out if it's legal or not. Anyone know? Would love to get him his first deer.

No. Read the regs!!!! Buck only if they meet the AR restrictions.
Honestly the regs make no sense for youth in your county. I cannot tell...

It is my understanding...in Dewitt county...we can harvest does from Sept. 27 to Feb. 28 using MDLP permits. So, ask your biologist to make sure but it looks like you can.

Better to ask a Warden or read the regs. Big difference between hunting in an AR county by AR rules and hunting the same county under MLD rules.

Yep, clear as mud. Can’t figure it out either. GW needs to be called for clarification.

January Special Youth-Only Season: The season is open in all counties where there is a general open season for white-tailed deer. All legal hunting means and methods are allowed, except in Collin, Dallas, Grayson, and Rockwall counties, where hunting is by archery equipment only and crossbows.
Bag limits, take of antlerless deer, and special requirements: In Bell (E. of I-35), Delta, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Franklin, Freestone, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Limestone, Milam, Navarro, Rains, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, Williamson (E. of I-35) and Wood counties, the bag and permit requirements are the same as the period Nov. 23-26, 2017 for each respective county (see County Listings); and For the remainder of the state, the bag, tag, and permit requirements are the same as for the first two days of the general season in the county (see County Listings). In a county where antlerless deer may be taken only by tag or permit, a tag or permit is required to take antlerless deer during the youth seasons.
Red River county, General Season Nov. 4, 2017 - Jan. 7, 2018 Antlerless Deer Nov. 4-19, antlerless by MLDP or hunting license tag; Nov. 20-Jan. 7, antlerless by MLDP tag only.
Considering you can kill doe the first 2 days of the general season in Red River county seems fairly straight forward to me.

Nicely done Rustler. I looked and looked for this on the TPWD site but couldn’t find it.

Why can't TPWD use plain language?
It can be more simply put.

It can be more simply put. This seems to be the case year after year, and it's like they want it (regulations) to be complicated.

In red river you can take does in late youth, refs should be the same as the first two days of the season, we are using black powder right now and does are fair game, should be good. (Disclaimer: I am not a game warden but that is how it has been in the past)
