14 year ol kid in the neighborhood. Never been hunting. Single mom asks if I wouldn't mind taking him out. I didn't hesitate.

1st hunt

2nd hunt

After the 1st hunt gave him some calls to take home to practice with. His mom hates me now. roflmao

That's what it's about. But that kid got spoiled on his first hunts. I think I sat in the freezing cold my first time and saw nothing. Of course I was by myself and 25.

Dan, good on you for taking him hunting! You may never know it, but the impact made could have changed his life.

Damn the luck, now you will probably have to buy a spare shotgun for when he wants to go with you (sarcasm imoji here) roflmao

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Awesome thing to do, and a great memory there. It looks like you got him covered, but if he needs his own starter decoys just to have something of his own, I bet I can come up with a dozen to give him. Let me know if that's something you'd like to get to him as a "welcome to the club" gift.

I know you're not the boy's father but felt like this quote was fitting..one of my favorites.

Ha that young man is just glowing...I think it’ll be just as important to teach him how to prepare those fowl properly. In my opinion it’s easier to kill them then it is to make them taste good.

Between the first and second hunt his mom takes him to BP and gets waders, jacket, hat, gloves and game bag.

Very much appreciated but not necessary. I stopped guiding full-time this year so I can spend more time doing stuff like this. I will still take out a few loyal clients but mainly it's time spent with family, friends and more specifically first timers. I have a ton of gear accumulated over the last 30 years of doing this. Kids like this will be the beneficiary.

This quote nailed it. I grew up without a father. I know what I lacked and missed out on. My goal is to make a difference. He will be hog hunting and fishing with me after duck season.

I showed him three ways to clean based on intended preparations and provided detailed instructions. He texted me a pic of the finished product. It looked great and tasted "amazing" according to him. He went with the Can skin on fillet breasts route. Salt, pepper and a tough of Chinese 5 Spice.
