With many on here saying how slow the deer season has been for them, deer sightings way down due to acorns, Chupacabras or maybe the dreaded fenceline hunters thought it'd be interesting to know where the counties of better hunting has bee.

If like to participate, please identify your hunting county and on avg. how many deer, does/bucks you may see per sitting as well as acreage size. Not a scientific census just something to have fun with late in season. Cheers!

Henderson County. About 70 percent wooded. 400 acres. See two deer per sit. Mostly doe. Mix in a hog every third sit. Saw one bobcat this year.

But shot zero. Which is what I usually do. I shot a nice sow to process last week.

My 75 is mostly mesquite flat pasture with mid level brush encircling it.

Hunting in eastern Erath. It's not unusual to sit 2-3 times without seeing a deer. Then see 5-6 next time out. I've already documented 21 different bucks spotted from stands on 300 acres. New stand on the high fence has been the best on the ranch. Deer on both sides are very social with each other. Pretty cool to watch them rub noses and sniff each other. Very similar to dogs. Have 4-5 different flocks of turkey that are fun to watch. We've killed 5 hogs since opening weekend. All in all, a very good year. Seen A few legal bucks. Missed a wide buck early on. Still haven't seen one as nice as him.

Western Lee county near the Bastrop/Lee county line. Usually see at least 8-10 does and one or two bucks per sit. The most I've seen was 18 does, 2 bucks and 16 hogs in the food plot at one time. I've seen 2 pretty nice bucks all season and they got a pass.

Terrell county. 10,000 acres high fence (pen) with lots of holes, no protein, and 12 (seasonal) corn feeders. 8 to 10 deer per sit. 1/2 bucks. Higher than average rainfall and we've seen the results in antlers. Shot some good bucks and now there's a 150+ ten, plus 3 or 4 kickers on him (that I first spotted on camera), that supposed to be "hands off" until after 2018 rut. Everyone's all "a twitter". (Of course, the "manager" that declared "hands off" will be elbowing the rest of us outa the way next Christmas to get at him!) BUT, we're all in agreement and we're trying to improve the place. We shall see.

'Be out there later this week to get a friend on a buck. I'm gonna try like crazy to hold off shooting much of anything until this time next year. (I think next year's season will go until Jan. 6th, 2019.) Cool.

Eastland and Stephens county ranch - 3100 acres LF but bordered on southwest by HF. Not too many bucks taken and only one was a nice 11 point. Have seen many young 8's and even a 10 that looked to be only 3.5 years. I did take a nice fat 140# doe, a 2.5 year spike (saw him last year and let him walk hoping he would sprout out) and a pig. Will be out again next weekend to see if the 12 I've seen on camera makes a mistake, otherwise will the fill the other doe tag and hopefully another pig.

San Saba county, low fence 165 acres. Not a single flat area on the place, constant hills and draws. Good habitat with tons of oaks. Low hunting pressure on surrounding properties.

I'll say I average 5-6 per sit but that depends on which area I hunt. The most productive spot averaged twice that amount if I corned the road. Most I had in front of me at once was 19. Pretty even ratio now of bucks to doe. Still working on age class but I've been taking the older lower scoring bucks to let the good young ones grow.

Cooke Count North of Saint Jo. 3-5 doe almost every sit and average 1-2 bucks about every other sit. Have identified 7 different bucks on the 20 acres we hunt. Shot one eight point this year.

Lee county, 500 acres LF. When hunting on creek bottom I normally see 8-12 doe/yearlings and 1-2 young bucks. My daughter took a 3 year old 7 point cull on opening weekend but after that I didn't see any Buck with age until December 22 when I took a tall pencil horn 8 that had no potential. My FIL took a 15+ inch 4 year old 7 point on December 26 and had another deer in the same age class at the feeder at the same time. Long story short we had a better year than it seemed we would have because of late activity at the feeders. I still hold a couple MLD Doe tags and should have them used by the end of the season to help our ratio out, I didn't mention I took 2 does in bow season. We also noticed a big improvement in yearling survival rate this year, nearly every mature Doe early had a fawn or twins, this is a big improvement in my 5 years on this place.

Concho County. 3,400 under HF with no high cross fences, but cross low fences. HF went up 3 years ago as did initial wind farm activity. Very low pressure since HF went up. Wind farm finally being installed...they are pouring foundations and about to go up with the towers and should be finished by June. Road improvements are nice...but construction traffic this year has been a lot. Had good rain all year so lots of good natural feed and acorns. Still see 15 - 20 deer a sit at corn feeders, but didn't see any studs until the rut started and then I started to see bucks I've never seen with this recent cold snap...so encouraged. Never had protein out, but will start in a few weeks for a couple months and then again late summer. Have identified 4 different bucks we want to keep off limits for breeder bucks. Nothing huge yet...maybe in the low 140's...but it has potential. Spent this year killing does early and cull bucks all season.

Jack county 80 acres rolling hills, mix of hardwoods with some mesquite very little cedar.
Average seeing around 5 deer per sitting, more in the evening. Seen some nice bucks just not the one I am hoping/wishing for up

I hunt over a 2 1/2 acre food plot Wheat, Oats, Rye, Austrian winter peas, also put a bale of fresh Alfalfa out every week, have those sweet blocks, salt block and sugar beet.

So I have provided them with a super buffet, when I finally take one it will be some high $$$ eating rofl

Schleicher County. SE of Christoval Texas. 10 guns on 2,500 acres. I see 15-30 deer a hunt. We have oak trees but acorns don’t seem to affect us much. Deer hit feeders and hand corn well. More bucks than does around the feeders. I had 18 bucks at one time on a hunt this year. Mature deer average 120-130s with a few 140-150s every year. 5 hour drive from DFW but worth it because the hunting is good.

Parker county 120 acres. Probably 5 to 10 deer per sit. Mostly does and young bucks except for the begining of the season when the mature bucks made their appearances. 1/3 of the property is heavily wooded and has lots of oaks. This year was good compared to the last 3 years. The oaks didn't drop acorns like they have in the past. I couldn't walk through the woods without the constant crunch of acorns the last few seasons. So far we have killed 2 bucks between my son and I.

Central Hunt county been hunting this area 12 years. All 12 have been great don't see that drought affected it much. I am in area called alligator bottom my friend Tom says that the natural minerals here are second to none in Texas . If you don't count any twice normal morning is 10 doe and bucks are less predictable not uncommon to see 4 or 5 then none next day. Would guess ratio of bucks to doe 1 to 5 think pretty accurate . Passed on several really nice bucks and eventually shot good 12 point with 5 kicker points like double brow tines. Had never seen him before and no pictures on cameras. Going to try to get grandson good one late while he is out school. My overall opinion of 2017 is normal for here witch is Great!! Sorry 160 acres 1 stand 2 feeders
